The surface of the sun from October 14th to 30th, 2014, showing sunspot AR 2192, the largest sunspot of the last two solar cycles (22 years). During this time sunspot AR 2191 produced six X-class and four M-class solar flares. The animation shows the sun in the ultraviolet 304 ångström wavelength, and plays at a rate of 52.5 minutes per second. It is composed of more than 17,000 images, 72 GB of data produced by the solar dynamics observatory (http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/) + (http://www.helioviewer.org/). This animation has be rendered in 4K, and resized to the Youtube maximum resolution of 3840×2160. The animation has been rotated 180 degrees so that south is ‘up’. The audio is the “heartbeat” of the sun, processed from SOHO HMI data by Alexander G. Kosovichev. Image processing and animation by James Tyrwhitt-Drake.

Show your love for Gloucester’s Rock Star, Jon Butcher, right down the road in Beverly tomorrow night

Rock stars just keep coming to Gloucester.  First it was T Max, publisher of The Noise, New England’s longest running music magazine.  (See a series of videos we shot promoting Gloucester’s music scene here.)

Then Jon Butcher moved to Gloucester and you could see him acoustic at Jalapenos, Rhumb Line and Shalin Liu.  Tomorrow, his band, The Jon Butcher Axis, releases their newest CD at a very special — and very much plugged in — CD Release Concert right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.

In addition to music from his new CD, you’ll hear tunes from “Kiss the Sky”, a feature film directed by Norman Lang, produced by Bill Rosenthal (who will appear with the band tomorrow on keys) and starring Jon Butcher and Tara Buck Pierce (of HBO’s hit series “True Blood”).  Jon has been commissioned to score the film, which is shooting in Boston, New York, Miami, London and Reykjavik Iceland through mid-2015.  You can still get tickets here — and the best available seats are in the balcony here.  So bop on down the road to Beverly tomorrow and catch a true rock star up close and personal.  Here’s some stellar guitar work from his Larcom Theatre concert last April:

Two great chances to connect with local stars — Tonight Boston Music Award nominee Gracie Curran and her hot band are live on stage with Blues Music Award winner Victor Wainwright and his smokin’ band from Savanna GA right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.  Doors @ 7pm Concert @ 8.  Let’s show these two young, rising stars that a little rain & wind won’t stop us from having fun.  Good seats still left (especially in the balcony).  Get them here.

So the girl is very attractive.  I’d be willing to bet that no matter how attractive a man is, if you reversed the gender roles in this video not one of the women rubbing lotion on the man’s back would stick around like these guys stuck around after the girl in the video let it rip.

These dudes are like “What, you just farted in my face?  No problem, happens all the time.”

Now have a good looking guy fart in some girl’s grill while she rubs lotion on him and there’s zero percent chance that girl sticks around looking for a date.
