Took a little time from work this weekend and headed up to the white mountains…..thought I would post a few pics. It was a beautiful weekend to be up in the mountains……More Deals tomorrow…….
THAT’S WHAT I”M TALKIN ABOUT!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much Doug! Very Freakin Cool! Take notes friends of GMG- This is the purpose of the GMG Stickers! Keep those vacation and travel photos coming in with Da Sticka!

Yesterday Grandkid #4, Kylie, took this picture out the car window with my iphone as we rode down Rte. 2. She was surprised to see this image when she looked back through the photos and showed it to us. Her dad, who is a avid ghost hunter, was stunned. We were talking about my mother and her ancestors at the time. Creepy. No explanation.
Well, we got to Amherst to see Cait cheer and watch the football game (UMass 37 -Northeastern 7). On our way to get some lunch, Kylie showed Cait the photo. She freaked out and thought we should go right to the local newspaper to report the “ghost”. In between Cait’s screaming and everyone talking about the possibilities, I heard Kylie say something about an “app” (Ghost Capture).
At that instant I knew we had been tricked by a 10 year old. She laughed so hard she cried. The rest of us threatened to do bodily harm, but it was one of the best practical jokes ever played on our family. Now it’s our turn!
Laurie Lufkin Has Agreed To Provide 2 dozen cookies to the winner of the caption contest for this picture. Laurie and her mom will be the judges.
Deadline 9AM Monday Morning for entry.

So yesterday, Lily and I went to the Open Door Food Pantry to shoot an episode of Inspired Cooking which will air next week and probably for a couple of weeks. The show was about fun and easy ideas to use your holiday leftovers in a cost effective manner because I feel that throwing away food is like flushing money down the drain–and I don’t want to do it!
Anyway, Julie LaFontaine, the Executive Director of the Open Door, Lily and I had a great time doing the show, the food came out delicious and a good time was had by all. The point of this is that there are lots of families on Cape Ann that need our help. Families have been hit hard in this economy and donating a holiday dinner to a needy family is the right thing to do if you can afford to help out.
This is what your $30.00 will buy for a family in need:

Holiday Meal Basket Donation Form
Each basket contains all the fixings a family of four will need to prepare a festive holiday meal. Just click on the link and everything you need to know is right there.
Baskets include:
Please help out our neighbors who might be struggling right now. According to Julie, those who are using the pantry are mostly working families who just can’t make ends meet. People are suffering everywhere and if you can help, please do. Here is the information below.
And if I can nominate a good egg, that would be Julie LaFontaine!

The family’s heading out to Amherst this weekend to watch Grandkid #1 cheer for the UMass football team. For all of us it will be a well-earned mini vacation. We’re looking forward to seeing Cait and getting out of town.
See you on Monday with a new WhereZat contest! Have a great weekend!

Through my travels of finding and creating great restaurant deals, I have also found some other businesses in town that give a good deal or two. One of those businesses in town that gives a great deal is Cape Ann Lanes. I am not sure how many of you have visited Cape Ann Lanes since it has been revamped, but the new owner has done a fantastic job. It is a great place to take your family, or just head out for a night with friends. The fact that I can go bowl a few strings and have a beer is good enough for me. The repainted, added new features, and put in some fantastic wide screen screens. Truthfully in my eyes, one of the best alleys on the North Shore. And yes – we have a GMG deal alert. You can get a free string of bowling for all in your bowling party…..Check it out below.

In a blog post yesterday Jon Keller from CBS News insinuates that there is merit in boycotting lobster because same sex marriage got defeated in Maine.
Hey Dopey- do you realize that there are lobster industries in other states than Maine you fucking idiot! States like Massachusetts. Having nothing to do with gay rights or same sex marriages which I support BTW, why the hell would you punish the men and women that have no stake in the battle- lobstermen?
You can read the idiotic premise here-
Posted by Jon_Keller cbs news-
After last night’s defeat in Maine, same-sex marriage is 0-for-31 when it’s gone before voters.
Some gay-marriage supporters are talking about a lobster boycott in response, and I think there may be some merit to the notion of moving away from civil rights arguments which (however well-founded) open the door to pushback from anti-marriage forces who contend their rights are threatened by legalization, and instead emphasizing the economic clout of gay consumers and their sympathizers. Don’t forget, Rosa Parks was part of a boycott of the local bus company that succeeded where protest marches had not.
So I ask you: would you honor a lobster boycott in protest over the Maine vote? And would you advocate a tactical change to economic pressure by the gay-marriage movement?
I know, I know. You all must have just forgot to put your bids in and let the clock expire without a bid for the Robin Jean at the low low price of $134,885.00

Ok, I wouldn’t of believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes. There is a new restaurant in town called Culina’s. They are on Washington Street where Trupiano’s use to be back in the day. A few places have come and gone, but the newest owner that has inhabited the building is trying something pretty bold, and from what i hear, pretty tasty. Dan down at Culina’s is offering a Native Clam or Scallop Plate for $9.95. Now wait a minute, thats not all. Dan has put up a coupon on Udine4less that will take an additional $2.00 off the price to bring it down to $7.95. Yes – I said $7.95 for Native Clams, Fries and Cole Slaw. As I am writing this, Culina’s is closed for the night, or I would have gone down and took a photo for GMG to behold. Right now, Culina’s is a takeout restaurant, but soon may add a few tables for dining in. I do promise to get a photo and post it here soon. In the mean time, looks like we have a GMG Deal Alert!!!!

This was taken several years ago…with film.

Well, Joe had mentioned we would be giving away some goodies, so why not start right now! Udine4less.com will be giving away a $50.00 Jalapenos gift certificate this month.

If you have never been to Jalapenos, well you should consider making a trip very soon. I have been there numerous times, and I always find myself ordering the Steak Gaonera. This dish is delicious! It’s a nice piece of steak smothered in two different cheeses and topped with a generous amount of guacamole.
The new addition that was put on a awhile back has really added to the atmosphere, and has provided much needed space and seating. If you plan on heading to Jalapenos, then check out the deal alert below:

Hey Paul…How the hell did you get that??? I mean, you’re good, but it was such a little piece of the sculpture!! You’ve got good eyes!

I just came across this and though it might be helpful now that we are running in to the holiday baking season. This is from http://www.cooksillustrated.com:

We think most cookies are best when they are chewy. This means taking them out of the oven when they are slightly underdone—in fact, the cookies are often so soft they will droop over the end of a spatula. Bake cookies on parchment and cool on baking sheet for a few minutes; after they have set up slightly, slide the parchment onto a cooling rack. if the cookies have crevices, the crevices should appear moist. When baking smooth cookies, look at the edges, which should be lightly browned; the center should be set but not fully dry.
I also find that when you can smell them, time to check the oven as they are done or just about done.
Second Clue-
“you can see it from 133 but it is not actually on 133?”
Third Clue-
something about the christmas tree that looks like it is in the middle of no where all lit up from after thanksgiving to the new year

Well – Thanks for the introduction Joe! I am VERY happy to be joining the GMG family. I have followed the blog for awhile now, and I am very excited to be joining as contributer. My goal is simple – Bring the readers of GMG the best possible deals on the North Shore. In this tough economic time, I am here to provide SAVINGS, SAVINGS, and more SAVINGS! So as I visit restaurants on the North Shore and beyond, I will be posting the newest deals available on Udine4less.com. I will provide links to these deals to make it as simple as possible to save! I will also be running contests each month and giving away gift certificates for some of your favorite restaurants! This month Jalapenos in Gloucester will be giving away a $50.00 Gift Certificate to one lucky winner! I will post the link for the contest as soon as it is available. Once again – I am VERY pleased to be a new contributer to the site, and I look forward to putting money back in your pocket!!!
