Journey To Armenia: Three Generations From Genocide

Journey To Armenia: Three Generations From Genocide.

KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

By Nubar & Abby Alexanian

It started with a question: “Dad, will you go to Armenia with me?” And it’s turned into the largest project I’ve ever produced that will require more resources than I’m used to coming up with. It will be our first feature length documentary film. As we hope you’ll agree, it’s also a film with a sense of urgency that has to be made.

Here’s a brief description of Journey To Armenia: Three Generations From Genocide.

The year 2015 marks 100 years since the genocide of a million and a half Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire, an event still denied by many countries, including Turkey and the United States. Our film is about being Armenian – about what it means to the soul of a people to be denied this recognition for generations.

We will be filming our own family and many others both here and abroad in our search for identity, our place in the world and how we move forward – together – as a people. In June we will make our first of many trips to Turkey and Armenia, including a journey to the four villages our grandparents fled and where our family tree was severed.

You can follow the link below which will bring you to our Kickstarter Page to see the TRAILER and more info about our project.

Baby Clare Represents!

The youngest to ever hold the stickah is my Clare Ryan.  Clare is a week old and is my 3rd beautiful girl. An interesting fact is that her first public event out was Bikini Speedo Dodgeball. She is thankful for the players that shielded her from dodgeballs that flew into the crowd. From the way she held on to the stickah you can tell she already loves GMG.

I am open to any tips from mom and dads out there of 3 or more girls!

Thanks – Patrick Ryan

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for the 2012 COMMUNITY RECOGNITION AWARDS

GLOUCESTER UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for the 2012 COMMUNITY RECOGNITION AWARDS

Nominations are open for the church’s awards honoring those whose volunteer work makes Gloucester a better place. Who do you know who deserves this recognition? The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is inviting nominations from the public for its 2012 Community Recognition Awards. The church annually seeks to recognize up to 10 individuals for contributions they voluntarily make to Gloucester, both large and small – people who do what they do without thought of any remuneration or recognition.

The men and women who receive these honors will come from all walks of life. Some are known for simple deeds they do for their neighbors. Others are honored for giving generously to the entire community. All will be people who have worked persistently and quietly to make a mark on Gloucester. They will be chosen because their actions embody the best of the spirit that guides Unitarian Universalism – open-hearted giving to others, solely for what those gifts mean, for no pay, and often with little or no public notice.  From young to old, there are no age limits

Nominations are due no later than Friday, April 13. They must be in writing and include the name and address of the nominee, why this person should be honored, and the name and contact information of the person making the nomination. Nominations may be sent to the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Church St., Gloucester MA 01930, or emailed to gloucesteruu@earthlink.net.

Final choices will be made by the church’s Social Justice Committee. The awards will be made at a public event at the church on Sunday, May 20.

You Heard it First on GMG (We Love Love)

George and Julie got hitched!  Their engagement was announced on GMG on July 3, after George came to Rocky Neck to ask Eric Kaplan for his daughter Julie’s hand in marriage.  https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2011/07/03/did-you-know-love-and-wedding-bells-in-the-air/

They were  married last week in Newport, RI at the Ocean Cliff Hotel.  Eric sent in this photo and update.  Congratulations Julie and George.  Look forward to seeing you on Rocky Neck this summer as Mr. & Mrs. Tzortzis.

Happy Birthday Mike!

Happy Birthday  to my boyfriend, Mike!  I picked up a wonderful strawberry shortcake cake  to celebrate from Jim’s Bake Shop.  Delicious! Very fresh and tastes just like strawberry shortcake.

We also had a wonderful dinner at Azorean with tapas and sangria. Unfortunately for you, the food was all gone by the time I thought of taking out my camera.  We sat at the bar and Jacquie served us. Such friendly service and a great atmosphere! A perfect way to celebrate Mike’s birthday.

The Light in Gloucester

The Light in Gloucester

The light in Gloucester continues to awe me.

I saw it on my first visit a few years ago

and it has enraptured me ever since.

It’s not a single color, hue or cast-

more a unique quality of clarity

that allows the colors to show their best.

This magical light allows us to swim in

whatever tone happens to be present

at the moment, as we go about our lives.

It may be the soft pink of a late summer

afternoon at Smith’s Cove, the glow of sunrise

above Thacher Island, the lavender dusk

hugging the tidal river, the deep blue of the

sea and the sky on a crisp winter day or

the breathtaking golden aura of autumn

when the marshes explode.

It is always enchanting, even now; even

home on a winter morning, mystical light

floods my room through the large glass doors that allow

me to look out over this wonderland.

Call For Performers for Nights on the Neck

I am helping coordinate performers for Nights on the Neck this season.  We are going to try to have the season scheduled by the end of April, so we can get posters and publicity ready and out early this year.  Nights on the Neck are the first Thursday of the month, June-September.  The dates this year are June 7, July 5, August 2 and September 6, and the event runs from 5:30-9:30.  We expect to have about 8 performances along Rocky Neck each of the nights, with performance durations from 45 minutes to 1-1/2 hours.  Those of you who have performed here in the past already know how well attended and fun Nights on the Neck are.  This will be our first season as a newly designated Massachusetts Cultural District, so we are looking to really amp things up and offer a first class cultural event for the community and visitors to Cape Ann.  If you would like to perform, please email me at khanstudio@comcast.net with the date(s) you are available and the time that works best for you, as well as what you do, your performance duration, and specific needs.  Also, if you have a preference as to the gallery or location where you would like to perform, please let me know.  Some locations may also specifically request performers who have performed at their locations in the past, so we want to try to accommodate everyone as best we can.  Also email me with any other questions you might have.

So as to create a well-rounded cultural event, and not upset our Rocky Neck neighbors, we are looking for performers that have something fun, thought provoking, unique, exciting, all ages appropriate, and not overly loud to offer.  If you are a musician, spoken word poet, juggler, dancer, comedian, writer, puppeteer, mentalist, hypnotist, storyteller, etc. who would like to be a part of creating a great Nights on the Neck experience, step forward.

First performance ever of Allen Estes’ new song

Allen Estes sings his brand new song Be Safe My Son for the first time on his show Local Music Seen, which will air in April.  Here’s a preview.  He literally finished the song last week, so this is the very first time it’s been heard by anyone outside the studio (except his son, Dylan, of course).

Lots of music today starting at noon.  Our friend, Inge Berge, comes out of hibernation tonight at 8pm to appear at Giusseppe’s!

See full lineup here.

This is an old postcard sent by Sylvia DeBoever (you remember Sylvia, Sarah Lawrence’s niece from the 66 year letter post) to Fred Bodin.  Fred sent it to me so you could all enjoy it.  Thanks Sylvia.  Hope your knee surgery went well.
