It was one month ago the poll took place and most took the under two months option.

Like I Said-Easy Money On The Over
My View of Life on the Dock
Bob Kennedy writes-
I shouldn’t make light of an invasive species problem, but I can hardly resist. I’m willing to personally eliminate the threat, dietarily speaking. Not nearly as good as lobsta, of course, but I’ll sacrifice myself to the cause. Whatever time I have left, I’ll finish my mission with good old Capt. Joe Mass. lobster, which is a helluva a lot better.

Scientists: Giant cannibal shrimp invasion growing
An invasion of giant cannibal shrimp into America’s coastal waters appears to be getting worse.
Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported Thursday that sightings of the massive Asian tiger shrimp, which can eat their smaller cousins, were 10 times higher in 2011 than in 2010.
βAnd they are probably even more prevalent than reports suggest, because the more fisherman and other locals become accustomed to seeing them, the less likely they are to report them,β said Pam Fuller, a USGS biologist.
The shrimp, which can grow to 13 inches long, are native to Asian and Australian waters and have been reported in coastal waters from North Carolina to Texas.
They can be consumed by humans.
"They’re supposed to be very good. But they can get very large, sorta like lobsters," Fuller said.
While they may make good eatin’ for people, it’s the eating the giant shrimp do themselves that worries scientists.

Mornin’…. Loving the blog as always….
Yesterday as my husband and I sat in the bridge traffic to get back into Gloucester we started talking (again) about the Gloucester bridge traffic game…..
It seems there are three categories: The wait-in-liners, the blockers and the passers. And its fast becoming a sport with the passers and the blockers pulling some pretty intricate maneuvers. Just yesterday we saw three trucks in plow formation blocking the whole road!
I wrote on my Facebook page the other day asking people which team they were and we’ve been having a great conversation. (the gist of which comes down to: If we could all agree to just use both lanes, everyone might be happy.)
I thought of your blog and wondered if you’d ever want to start that conversation. Its getting pretty heated on the road lately and i think maybe some people would do well to hear from the other teams.
Just a thought Have a good one

No I’m not about to crash. Β That’s M’Aidez,Β M’Aidez (French for “Help me”).
It’s May Day, which is a holiday in many foreign countries (including New York City), so I figured we’d think about how to celebrate it here, in Gloucester. Β Dancing around a May Pole outside today doesn’t seem all that attractive. Β But dancing indoors? Β Oh yeah!
You can start by hearing some of Cape Ann’s best musicians at Jalapenos during dinner (in the Video, above, they’re at Berklee) then over to the Dog Bar’s open mic at 9 and end the night dancing to Henley Douglas Jr. at the Rhumb Line. Β And it’s only Tuesday. Β Think how much fun we’ll have as the week goes on . . . (See the full music lineup here.)
And mark your calendar NOW so you don’t forget to go to Minglewood on Saturday to hear Brad Byrd’s full band (they’re awesome) and you might just end up in his next music video (see his recently release video here.)
Now Just last week I was telling you that the number one thing I would tell anyone that they had to do on a 70 degree plus day in G Town was to go for a sail on the Lannon, and lo and behold BAM!Β A groupon for half off.Β These donβt last long and usually they shut it down half way through the day because they only release so many to groupon.Β Donβt be a dope, get yours for 45% off now!

Itβs almost that time of year when all the really cool stuff around happens.Β At the Top of my list for anyone coming into town on a nice day is a sail aboard the Thomas E Lannon.Β Bottom line if a tourist had one thing to do and only one thing Iβd tell them on a nice day to take a cruise aboard what I consider to be the most beautiful ship in the harbor.
Not only is the ship beautiful, but you also get to experience the warm genuine hospitality of some of the finest representatives our city has to offer The Ellis family. Captain Tom, his wife and sons are just the nicest most sincere, fun loving people youβd ever want to meet.
There is hospitality that is, you know, kinda forced, which in my book is fine because in the absence of the warm fuzzy true genuine friendliness Iβll take a forced friendliness over bad or rude service any day.Β But from the minute you enter the booking office and you meet Kay you realize there is nothing phony about the Schooner Lannonβs operation.Β They just happen to be really good at what they do, they love it and they provide a great experience genuinely and naturally- the best of all worlds!
This is not to say there arenβt a bunch of other very cool things to do around town like whale watches, deep sea fishing, Visiting The cape Ann Museum or The Heritage Center, coffee at one of our great coffee shops, breakfast at our many awesome breakfast joints, ect, ect.Β Iβm just saying, you give me a sunny 70 degree day and I have folks in from out of town, A guaranteed great time is to be had aboard The Thomas E Lannon.

The Old State House in Boston. This building housed the Colonial government from 1713 – 1776 and the State government from then until 1798. The lion on the left and the unicorn on the right are symbols of the British Monarchy. The originals were destroyed upon the reading of the Declaration of Independence from this balcony on July 18, 1776 Β They were replaced by replicas in 1882. The building now houses the State St. Orange and Blue Line MBTA station and a museum.
To the people who are writing and asking me to make exceptions for deadline I set for the community listings:
I am very sorry.Β These two weeks are the last two weeks of 2012 that I can completely enjoy my family before work goes to a seven day a week schedule through the end of the year.
I am sorry that you may not have seen the announcements that I posted and reposted every day this week in anticipation of this last vacation of the year.
Iβll recopy the announcement that ran every day this past week again in case you missed it over the course of the past 7 days-
If you have an announcement for the Community Stuff section it needs to be submitted before the 30th.
The blog will still be updated every hour on the hour from 6am to 8pm.Β Iβve been working hard to pre-schedule two weekβs worth of content during my scheduled times and youβll be in very capable hands with the rest of the GMG crew who I know will step up and keep the quality at the high standards that youβve come to expect from us.
Thank you, the boss.
I would appreciate if you could cut me some slack for these next two weeks and not write in and ask me to make an exception because it pains me to not be able to help you but this is a commitment Iβm making to my family.
Iβve worked tirelessly to make sure that I have pre-scheduled two weeks worth of quality Gloucester content for you while Iβll be away and the rest of the GMG contributors Iβm sure would be happy to help you.
If youΒ receiveΒ an email in response with a link to this post please pardon the brevity of my reply. Β I simply won’t have time to give meaningful and heartfelt apologies to each and every person who may have missed the pre-announcements about the deadline.
Thanks again for your understanding- Joey
OK, I know this is a blog and we’re supposed to post about what’s happening right now — especially while our fearless leader is on vacation. Β But I just can’t resist telling people to save next Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30Β for something you really don’t want to miss.
I’m going to bet there are people reading this who have never been to Shalin Liu. Β Here’s your chance. Β It’s FREE. Β And I’ll bet there are people reading who’ve never heard a harpsichord played live. Β You’re in for a treat. Β Shalin Liu is probably one of the best places on Earth to hear one — and it’s right down the street.
Then there’s the fact that Greg Bover, who lives in Magnolia and works at C.B. Fisk, built the harpsichord that his wife Frances Fitch, one of the area’s most accomplished musicians,Β will be playing. Β And the harpsichord is asΒ beautiful to look at is it is to hear. Β So save the date, come on out and enjoy the talent that’s right in our own back yard.
Now for the immediate. Β This is a big week on Cape Ann:
See the week’s full music lineup hereΒ (updates will be added as we find out about them)
Councillor Steve LeBlanc,Jr. will hold a Ward 3 meeting for Ward 3 residents on Tuesday May 1,2012 at 6:00pm in the 3rd floor conference room at City Hall to discuss issues of concern to Ward 3 residents including a possible sale of public property at Cunningham Rd./Marsh St. and matters relating to water main construction . All residents of Ward 3 are invited to attend.
Adventure
When we are children, we dream of adventure,
like climbing Mount Everest or sailing alone
around the globe or living in the wilderness,
foraging and hunting for our very survival,
or, perhaps, someday learning to fly.
Often, along the way, our dreams are modified;
In my case, Mt. Everest became the High Peaks
of New York, the oceans of the world were
reduced to the Finger Lakes and living off the land
turned into an irregularly kept vegetable garden.
And I have never learned to fly.
But hereβs what I have done: survived seven
years in the sterile suburbs of New York City amid
endless shopping centers and the numbing drudgery
of a long daily commute, but then picked up
my family and moved 250 miles away to a small
town where we started over from scratch;
where we raised our children, built a life,
and did everything from keeping chickens and
goats to serving in the state capitol to
meeting our grandchildren and loosing
some loved ones, and then, like a broken field runner,
changing directions and heading east to Gloucester.
Gloucester, where I awake to such scenes, scents and
sounds and I feel as though I am in a painting
by Van Gogh when his eyes and mind were
seared by the light at Arles; where the people who were
born here are still thankful for this place and
where each day is an adventure that beats my early dreams.
