Making the Cut
Reggae Weekend ~ Mile Marker One Presents ~ Inner Visions ~ World Class Reggae Band from US Virgin Islands
Innervisions has been playing Castle Hill in Ipswich the last few years but the crowds became too large for them to handle so we’re hosting them over two nights at Cape Ann Marina Mile Marker One. Friday August 16th and Saturday August 17th On Friday the 16th we have an Opening act from Newburyport called Freevolt.
Doors are at 7pm. 15$ at the door. Cape Ann Marina 77 Essex Ave. Gloucester Ma Mile Marker One 978 283-2122
We also have Free Shows on our Bridge Deck All weekend with Jah N I on Friday 8/16 and The Glostafarians on Saturday 8/17 plus The Runaround Sunday 8/18 at 5pm.
1. When was Inner Visions formed? The band is dated back to when Phillip “Grasshopper” Pickering returned from the military in 1979 and joined “Prophecy” Reggae Band. Over the years the band saw a name change and has continued on since that time as Inner Visions.
2. What is the history of the band? Inner Visions has been the around since the golden days of reggae when the likes of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Toots and the Maytals, Peter Tosh, Third World, Steel Pulse, Inner Circle, Aswad and so many other foundation Artists presented the world with a music that would not be denied. Because the Virgin Islands dominant music art form was Calypso and now is Soca music, (and the fact that St. John was so far removed from the limelight), it was not until 1995 that the band started getting some recognition when we released our first official recording. Since then the music has taken us through the Caribbean, to Cancun Mexico, Europe and all over the USA. We now boast six self produced recordings to our credit.
3. Who are the current members of the group? Current members are Alvin “Jupiter” Pickering (Bass/Background Vocals), Phillip “Grasshopper” Pickering (Guitars/Percussions/Lead Vocals), Akiba “Mr. Snooze” Pickering (Keyboards/ Lead and Background Vocals), and Aswad “Hollywood” aka “Black Lion” (Drums). Just incase you are wondering about those Pickering last names, “Jupiter” and “Grasshopper” are brothers and “Mr. Snooze” and “Black Lion” are the son’s of “Grasshopper!”
4. Who are your Musical influences? Wow, there are so many to mention! I think the group Culture for the energy, Third World for the message of love, Aswad for the party style grooves, Steel Pulse for the consciousness, Bob Marley for the universal strength, and many, many more!
5. What keeps you coming back to New England? The awesome love we feel from our fans many of which we have had the opportunity to greet on our Island home long before performing stateside.
6. What is your connection to Gloucester? Joe Loiacano (Manager at Mile Marker 1) had known of us as he had lived and managed a venue on St. John a few years back. We had played Gloucester before at the Rhumb Line, but after hearing about the crowds we were packing in at the Castle on Crane Beach’s Summer Concert Series, he decided to have us. It was such a great success last year, he up-scaled it for this year’s performance.
7. What is Island life like on St. John? It is a rewarding way of life as one might expect but the drawback is it is very expensive to live there. We boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and some of the most wonderful people but like everywhere these days things are tough all around. Still we would not trade it for the whole wide world!

See this stuff? It’s Crap and I’m an Idiot For Buying It
I ran out of my 50 cent per gallon spring water from Market Basket and was parched so I ran up to Rochdale and bought a couple if these zero calorie Powerades.
First off whatever the fuck is in there sure as hell isn’t as good as drinking pure old water and whatever smoke and mirror bullshit they pulled off to claim it’s zero calorie you can be sure as shit is loaded up with some other bad ass not naturally occurring ingredients to make it zerocalorie
Shoulda just grabbed a gallon of water to chug, but no. Had to go off and buy the crap.
Lesson learned.

Stormy weather blues cured by music tonight and over the wekend
Live music starts at 6 tonight, 11 AM tomorrow & Sunday. You can’t get to every show so here’s the schedule to help you choose.
Tonight you can catch an unusual lineup of top musical talent in one intimate venue that you don’t see every day: Allen Estes has been quietly assembling a band of all-stars, including the great David Brown, Dave Mattacks and Wolf Ginandes to plug in and rock. Wait, you might say. Isn’t Allen Estes, folk, country or americana? Sometimes. But when he’s with these guys and their plugged in they ROCK! And that’s precisely what they’ll do at Minglewood Tavern tonight starting about 9. Check them out!
Tomorrow, start off at the Blues Fest (weather will clear by morning). Then take the party to town at any of a dozen venues at night (see here). Get up Sunday by 11 and check out the Rockport Acoustic Music Fest.
Saturday, September 21, 8 PM Presented by M.E. Productions SAVOY BROWN- UNPLUGGED featuring KIM SIMMONDS
Legendary…a blues/rock institution…true innovators. These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past 40 years by music critics and fans. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. From London’s Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall, Fillmore’s East, and West, Cobo Hall, etc.), Savoy Brown has done it all and as the band continues to tour worldwide they give a glimpse into the past and also inspire new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues, and rock.
The band will play a special ‘bare essentials’ unplugged show, tailored for the intimate setting of the Shalin Liu Performance Center. For any Savoy Brown fan, this is a unique opportunity to see a one of a kind show with special material!

Dave says,
It’s time to give me your huddled masses and exotic diseases and await the haloed return of Mr. Dennis Brennan, ubermensch of the blues. Quickly becoming everybody’s favorite flavor, he sure knows how to get your blood moving..And he’s bringing that fleet-fingered six-shooter string glitar master, Mr. Matt “Dillon” Stubbs with him. Lotta maiming goin’ on. Gonna keep Doc Pomus busy all nite! Worse, the atomic clock. Mr. Dave Mattacks is short fused for the nite, so, get ready for for an all-out frontal assault. Be there or be square.
As the grapevine was strangling me, it’s become apparent that the place to be Tuesday nite is at the Doggy Bar. Rheumer has it that The Funda- mentals* are ripe for seed pod explosion and are waiting to spray you with their own brand of cosmic debris. I’ll be there with a whisk broom. You should go.
Also, buy yourselph a folding chair and limp on down to Stage Fork Parque this Saturday. Sit down and don’t get up till it’s over. The 2nd annual Glou. Blooze Fest, that is. 11to 7, still gives you time to wipe yourself off and go bar hopping later. I’ll see you there.
And here’s some more goodies for you this month. It’s the best batch yet:
Aug. 15 Willie Alexander and some boom booms. Boomba boom!
Aug.22 Lydia Warren and Chris “Stovepipe” Brown. Breathing optional.
Aug.29 “Flash” Gordon Beadle and the north shore aliens. Medic!
Sept.5 Michelle Willson and John Hyde
Sept.12 Ricky “King” Russell, Edd Scheer and Mario Perrett. The three stooges! Spread out!
Sept.19 Lisa Marie with Keith Lockhart, June’s brother and his pet drummer Gym.
Sept.26 Chris”Stovetop” Brown with his pet air bulb anklysaurus
And, again, thank you for your continued support. Without you Fred could only afford Creme Brûlée once a week.
