Charlee Bianchini Has a Couple Of Bikes For Sale

IMG_3546

Hi Joey!
How are things going down at the Dock?? Let’s get coffee soon and catch up!
I’m wondering if you could do me a huge favor.  I’m trying to sell a couple bikes, and was wondering if you could put an announcement on GMG for me?  I’m not sure you do that sort of thing, but I thought I’d ask.
I’m including the pictures of them, and you can tell people if they’re interested then send me an email: charleebeth@gmail.com
Greatly Appreciative! and let me know when you’re free.  I should be around this week if you want to hit up the Gull!
C
The green bike is only a few years old, and in absolutely perfect condition–not a spot of rust on it. I’m trying to sell that one for $300, but am flexible.  The red bike is a bit older but still rides very well. I’ll sell that at $200, again flexible.

Event To Honor Jack Meany- CEO Of The North Shore YMCA

image

Hi Joey,

I work at the North Shore United Way and receive Google Alerts for Gloucester since it is a community we serve.  I’ve noticed your blog posts and thought, for once, I’d submit something in case you are interested in featuring it.

On September 30th at Cruiseport in Gloucester we will be honoring Jack Meany, the CEO of the North Shore YMCA, for over 25years of his dedication and leadership within our North Shore communities.  Jack actually started his career at the Cape Ann Y and then moved on to become to CEO for the North Shore YMCAs.  I’ve included below an article in the Gloucester Times about the event.  Tickets are available on our website and can also be purchased at the door: http://www.nsuw.org/LULA.html.

Thanks very much for your time.

Immediately following college, Jack used his teaching degree at Hannibal High School in Hannibal, New York.  He also coached basketball, track, cross country and golf during his seven years at Hannibal High School. Jack received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the State University of New York at Oswego and a Master of Science degree in Recreation Administration from the State University of New York at Cortland.

Celebrate Gloucester Sponsored by National Grid Raises $15,000 for Local Charities
Thanks to support from National Grid, the City of Gloucester and many sponsors and volunteers, Celebrate Gloucester raised $15,000.00 for charity, which was donated to The Gloucester Fund today.
“We all saw how music brought people down to the property to party at the end of Summer,”  said Gloucester Fund Treasurer, Ringo Tarr.  “It’s a great use of the property.  Letting the public decide how to spend the money we raised helps get people involved in making our City a better place to live.”
The Gloucester Fund will award grants to the top 3 vote-getters among the 24 charities who have been nominated since August 1.  People can go to CelebrateGloucester.com to vote for their favorite charity through September 30th.  Each of the three winners will receive $5,000.00.
“We could not have raised this money without help from our sponsors led by National Grid,” said Celebrate Gloucester producer, Peter Van Ness.  “Celebrate Gloucester was truly a community event featuring local music, local sponsors, local food and a mostly local audience.  I encourage everyone to support our sponsors.  You can see who they are when you go to CelebrateGlocuester.com to vote for your favorite charity.”
Celebrate Gloucester will be releasing a feature length concert DVD sometime in October.  A portion of the DVD sales will also be donated to the three winning charities.

Net proceeds will be donated to The Gloucester Fund. The Gloucester Fund will award grants to charities nominated on this website. Voting ends September 30th. The Gloucester Fund will divide the proceeds equally among the top 3 vote-getters.

Vote for your favorite nominee. You have one vote.

If you would like to nominate a charity or project dedicated to revitalizing Gloucester that is not on this list, PLEASE CLICK HERE. Each charity only needs to be nominated once.

Friends in need of community deeds

Friends on Facebook posted this important letter:

From the Times

To the editor:

Being friends of Jim and Marilyn Curcuru for many years, we are writing to ask our community for its help.

Many of you may or may not know Jim and Marilyn, so let me tell you about them. Marilyn was stricken with multiple sclerosis more than 25 years ago. She was employed by the now Shaw’s Supermarket.

Even though Marilyn is in a wheelchair and has been for many years, she was still sitting in at Shaw’s Railroad Avenue once in awhile. She is the person you see smiling and giving out samples.

Jim had his own business, Jim’s Frame Design, and while he continued to maintain his business, he would have to leave whenever Marilyn needed help at home since she was confined to a wheelchair. No one expects such horrible circumstances, but people deal with their problems.

Then, about five years ago, Jim had a major heart attack and almost died. Working miracles, his Boston doctors were able to save him. About two weeks ago, he had more problems and was forced to close his business.

Jim now has a small part-time job and they continue to struggle, but they continue to deal with what comes their way. Life has not been easy.

Recently, they had some problems with their old wheelchair-accessible van and Jim came up with the money to fix it, only to find out that, within weeks of the work being done, the floor of the van had rotted out. No one who had repaired the van had realized that the floor was falling through.

The floor of the van cannot be repaired. They now have no vehicle, and Marilyn is not only confined to her wheelchair, but to her house, too. Local wheelchair vans are only available for doctors and or medical appointments.

How do they keep going? Being the people that they are, they won’t ask for help, but they need it — desperately. Everyone is in tough times and many are out of work. We are hoping that with donations, they will be able to acquire a used wheelchair-accessible van, even though they are very expensive. With the help of the community, we’re hoping this can be achieved.

There are many businesses and organizations here in Gloucester that help people. We are hoping that some of them will come forward and help with donations as well. If there is anyone out there who can help with even a small donation (even a dollar) or knows someone who can help with a wheelchair accessible van that could be donated, they would be helped immensely.

If anyone would like to help, please send any checks made out to Jim and Marilyn Curcuru Van Fund. Any checks should be sent c/o Rockport National Bank, 4 Parker St., Gloucester, MA, 01930.

If you only have a dollar to spare, please feel free to drop any donation off in the afternoons at STUFF, 161 Main St., where there is a cash donation set up. If you have any questions or know of a van that might be available for them, please feel free to call Louise or Joe Palazzola at 978-281-1048, or Anthony and Eleanor Curcuru at 978-281-0874. We want to thank Rockport National Bank for setting up this account for them. Any and all questions will be appreciated.

Striped bass tournament to benefit Open Door food pantry in Gloucester

Tournament, now its eighth year, has raised $30,000 to fight North Shore hunger

Tickets are now on sale at Winchester Fishing for a striped bass fishing tournament to benefit the Open Door food pantry in Gloucester.

The Leo Almeida Memorial North Shore Striped Bass Tournament is celebrating its eighth year this Labor Day weekend. It is the only tournament that combines the North Shore’s fishing heritage with the fight against hunger on Cape Ann and in other local communities.

The tournament will be held this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6. Prizes up to $500 will be awarded in various categories, including boat, shore/surf and for youth 15 and under.  A raffle of dozens of prizes will also be held. Those who wish to donate to the pantries without fishing can enter and will also be eligible to win raffle prizes.

Entry fee is $15. Tickets are available at Winchester Fishing in Gloucester. Ticket sales end this Friday, Sept. 3.

The Open Door on Emerson Avenue has been feeding local residents for over 25 years. The tournament will also benefit the People to People Food Pantry in Danvers and Our Neighbor’s Table in Amesbury.

Leo Almeida was a lifelong North Shore resident whose commitment to public service was matched by his love of fishing. He died in 2003, shortly before the first North Shore Striped Bass Tournament that he organized. In the past seven years, the tournament has raised over $30,000 for food pantries in Gloucester, Danvers and Amesbury. More than 800 people have participated since the tournament began.

To enter or for more information, see www.northshorestriper.com  or call Tournament Chairwoman Amy Almeida at (617) 501-1659.

Props To Bob Hastings at The Chamber of Commerce and The Gloucester Police Department

Yesterday’s announcement about the counterfeit $20 bills came from Executive Director of The Cape Ann Chamber Bob Hastings.  Within minutes of Bob getting the information from the police department he emailed the entire chamber membership and we got the news out here.

The Chamber does a lot of great things that sometimes go unnoticed, just thought I’d point out and recognize just another way they help our community.

Good work
