We’re gonna throw everything we got including the kitchen sink into the musical cauldron. And floating up to the top will be that Rockport Rascal and Blues Behemoth, the one and only Ms. Mari Martin. It’s always a pleasure to hear this nightingale sing. She can adjust her uvula in many ways to make your hippocampus explode on cue. My pants will be held up by a strong belt of vodka. Your earrings may melt. Every tune is scientifically designed for  shaking one’s tootsies. Need I say more?
Adding creme filling to the proceedings will be that unflappable glitar whiz, Mr. Bob Enik. This guy scares me: you can’t lose him…..
He’s bringing his buddy, the keyboard millipede Mr. Jim Gambino, from the crime family. You better like him, or else. Also, Mr. Roger Brocklebank, the heartbeat of Madhouse® and fine drum instructor, will her beating time along with myself, on base. Don’t forget your Serutan®!

Dave Sag is on a roll. Â One way to gauge the quality of a musician is by the guests who perform with him and it just seems like some of the best musicians in the area are showing up as Dave Sag’s guests lately (see list here). Â So we figured it was time to reprise the Local Music Seen show we premiered a couple of years ago featuring Dave Sag. Â The show will air tonight at 6:30 on Cape Ann TVÂ Channel 12, and on Friday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 6pm.
In addition to being a talented, versatile musician, Dave Sag is an entertaining story teller and his stories shine in this show, as you can tell from this clip, where Dave asks our sound guy, Will Hunt (who did a did an excellent job programming the Block Party music and managing sound on all 3 stages this past Saturday) to join him on Sax — and Will, who’s equally versatile and always a good sport, agrees.  Check out the dynamic, on-stage spontaneity in this number:
Just in case you don’t live in Gloucester and can’t get Channel 12, you can watch the entire show on-line now thanks to Cape Ann TV’s new technology! Â Click here to watch the show.

“Quarry Dance 1”…performed by the Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre at Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, Mass. during the summer of 2012 was so successful that Windhover Performing Arts Center (located in Rockport, Mass)  has invited choreographer, Dušan Týnek and his New York based modern dance company to develop a second installment , “Quarry Dance 2.”

This site-specific dance will be performed at privately owned Valley Pit Quarry, located at 7 Leverett Street in Lanesville (Gloucester) on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 5:30p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. Contributions are welcome. Parking is available at the Lanesville Congregational Church at 1120 Washington Street across from Leverett Street on both days. Parking is also available at the Lanesville Community Center at 8 Vulcan Street on Friday, July 26thonly. Street parking is allowed on Emerald Street, as well as on one side of Washington Street. The performance will last about one hour.
Valley Pit Quarry has a unique history because its former owner, Sylvester Ahola, a Lanesville native, was one of the most talented and famous musicians of the 1920’s and 30’s, playing lead trumpet with over a dozen big bands and making over 2,000 records. After retirement in 1940’s, he hosted many sailing parties at the quarry as a way of celebrating these man-made wonders.
Today, almost 100 years later, Dušan Týnek takes on the challenge by creating a new dance that will reflect upon this special place and generate a new and fresh narrative. The dance will move naturally through the environment using perspective and the unique architecture created by the granite ledges, overhangs, cracks, cliffs and terraces. And the dancers will also be in contact with the water, using its sounds as an additional dimension to the dance. The entire quarry and its surroundings will become a stage.
The Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre is a dynamic, contemporary dance company based in Brooklyn, NY. Recently named one of the top 5 New York City dance companies of the year by the New York Times, they have toured throughout the U.S, Europe and Russia and have recently completed a series of successful performances at Baruch College in New York City. In September, they are scheduled to perform at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary. “ Terrific…striking…a high level of invention… Mr. Týnek is an undoubted talent.” NYTimes
Chairs will be provided for the audience, but people are welcome to bring their own chairs too, and people are encouraged to bring their own water and/or soft drinks.
Windhover is grateful to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation for their support and the funding which has made this event possible. We also wish to thank the Rockport and Gloucester Cultural Councils and The Donor Advised Fund of the Boston Foundation for their important contributions, as well as our many friends and supporters. Did you see Ned & the Big Babies at Dog Bar during the Block Party? Â Wow! Â Tight, crisp, rockin’ sound; you just can’t help but move around! Â These guys are one of the most entertaining bands in Gloucester. Â And the best thing is that you could hear them all the way up on Main Street. Â I saw people dancing their way down to Dog Bar’s gorgeous outdoor dining spot on their Rogers St. side because you couldn’t just walk, you had to dance. Â Thankfully, nobody took any photos of me dancing down there (at least none that I know of).
Imagine what kind of party you could throw with a whole CD of new Ned & the Big Babies songs. Â Now click here and help make that happen! Â Not so sure? Â Watch the video:

Just in case you haven’t noticed, North Shore 104.9’s “Curtain Up” host, Aurelia Nelson, has been inviting Cape Ann rock stars to be her guests more frequently of late and it points to a trend of featuring locals on the station as a whole (see some examples here).
Tomorrow (SUNDAY) at 9AM, she does it again, this time with Festival By The Sea producer Chris Langathianos and headliner Chris Trapper. Â You’ll get a sneak preview of festival highlights and hear Chris perform. Â Definitely worth getting up for — even if you stay out late at tonight’s Block Party.
And just in case you’re not quite sure which of tonight’s excellent shows to catch, here’s a list of all live music to help you decide.

Lots of parents take their kids to the Harbor Loop concerts and the Block Party and everybody has fun. Â Tomorrow (SUNDAY) is another great chance to get the kids out to hear music with 14 live shows starting between 11am and 7pm — and excellent evening shows to follow for those who, like us, keep the kids up late.
Last Thursday show was so good. No rain! I could hear harmonic melodies as I made my way down Pleasant Street. The Honky Tonk Women of Gloucester opened the evening with some Doo Wop and many 60’s song hits. Tonekat took over the second half and ended with a mixture of smokin rock and blues, leaving the audience wanting more. Both bands play around Gloucester if you hear of them playing check them out. You will not be disappointed.
Here’s a new feature for tomorrow’s (SAT) Downtown Block Party: Win Cool Prizes! The Block Party’s new Marketplace at the Cape Ann Savings Bank Plaza between Hancock and Porter Streets (see map) has a new game called Glosta-opoly played on a brand new Monopoly-style board created by members of Art Haven. Â
Revised Entertainment Schedule There have been a couple of minor changes to the entertainment — click here for all entertainment by stage. Â Click here for all musical entertainment by time.
Don’t sweat the parking. Â I’m always surprised when I hear people complain about parking in Gloucester. Â Honestly, I’ve never had trouble finding a parking space — not even during Fiesta. Â Last night I went to the Harbor Loop Concert. Â I got there after it started on a beautiful summer night in the height of the tourist season when every local hotel is full and what do you know? Â I found a parking space on Rogers Street at Harbor Loop! Â In fact I had my choice of at least half a dozen free (after 6) spots on Rogers within earshot of the music. Â Plus there were plenty of spaces at I4-C2. Â So don’t worry about the few Main Street parking spots that are not available during the Block Party. Â Trust me. Â You won’t have a problem finding a space within a couple minutes walk.
