Dear Friends,
Once upon time there was a local singer songwriter who got a steady Thursday night local gig.
This was very exciting for her to play weekly with some of the finest players in her little town. One January
Thusday night she had planned to play with her good friend, and, have for the first time, her cousin
as her guest!
Sometimes the best layed plans mean nothing…this singer songer got the flu and couldn’t
perform!
Luckily her friend, Inge Berge, put on his superhero cape and saved the night! THE END
At Katrina’s tonight 1/29 from 7-10PM Inge Berge will be covering for me, so please show him your support and I’ll see you next week!

I’m late again! Poetic licence had expired and had to wait in line for *** tetragrammation**** to re-up my status. So let’s go!
I can’t wait for you to hear this fabulous band: The Good old (Sea)Salty Jazz Band. All 35 of them are showing up on Thursday to wail away your blues!
But seriously, folks there’s only 8 to 11 of us,depending on who has a doctor’s appointment at the time. Looks like there’ll be 10 of us this evening. We’ve been holding SRO concerts at The Rose Baker Senior Center for years, and now that our record sales have gone platinum, it’s time to play the big time! So grab a date (or some prunes), put on those soft shoes and beat me, daddy eight to the bar! and don’t forget to try one of Jeff, the bartender’s famous Metamucil-infused cocktails for the smell of success. Ahhhh.
The Ole Salty Jazz Band play great music at Rose Baker a few times a month. This was shot on Monday March 19th.

Come join us as we celebrate the the 256th birthday of the beloved Scottish bard Robert Burns this Sunday, January 25th (his actual birthday!) at our Celtic Music Session at the Dog Bar in downtown Gloucester.
I’ll be joined by fiddler Adrienne Howard, string player Linda Shields Swicker and whistle player/piper/singer David de la Barre. We’ll feature songs and poems of Burns – and other Scottish ‘fare’ (except haggis!) – bring one to share! 5:30-8:30. No cover.

Appears almost sold out, but there really are plenty of good seats left
If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we always warn you when a concert is about to sell out. A quick glance at the seating chart for next Saturday’s John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band concert at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre, looks like it’s almost sold out. But here’s the thing: there are lots of excellent seats left. Most importantly, every seat at the Larcom has a great view and the sound is PERFECT! For this show, the best available seats are in the Balcony and you can get them here.
This will be a special show, in part because local Rock Star, Gary Backstrom, is opening with his excellent band — and there’s a wonderful personal connection at play too: Gary’s drummer, Mike Doyle, studied at Berklee with Jackie Santos of the Beaver Brown Band. You don’t want to wait until it really is sold out and miss this drummer’s reunion do you?

Well, I’m a little late this time around due to complications with cosmetic hippocampus surgery,but not to worry, the voices have all gone, like a pile of popcorn by my feet, eaten by unseen pigeons. Also, the lineup hadn’t been solidified till now, so let the nailbiting cease!
Let’s welcome back Ms. Mari Martin and her oversized vocal pipes to our musical carousel of a stage this week. I know, I know, she just played here last Saturday with her rootin-tootin band of musical outlaws, but this time around we’re really mixing it up.
First, throw Mr. Mike DiBari, glitarist deluxe, a veteran ack-ack gunner, into a large pot. Then add the pulsations and random cacklings of that tonsorially-challenged timekeeper; Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. Fold in two quarts of vodka-infused bass by yours truly, then pour in 180 pounds of fatback organisms and keyboard stylings of the prolific Mr. Mark Retallack. Beat well. Strain through a felt hat. Insert large funnel into trepanned hole in skull.Pour. Ahhh…. Honey, I’m home……

Holiday Delights on Cape Ann TV This Weekend
This just in from Lisa Smith:
Keep Warm, stay inside this MLK weekend and watch “Holiday Delights” on Cape Ann TV Channel 12. This latest version of the Gloucester Stage perennial favorite Christmas play was filmed with three cameras last month. It features over 30 young actors from the Gloucester Stage Youth Acting Workshop and tells the story of a Gloucester girl who finds the true meaning of Christmas on Christmas Eve. The program airs Saturday, January 17 at 9 am and 5 pm; Sunday, January 18 at 8 am; and Monday, January 19 at 9 am and 6 pm. See complete Cape Ann TV Schedule here.

You Spoke, We listened: Booker T. Jones is coming to the Larcom 2/21
Just before Christmas, we asked people whether we should bring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Musicians Hall of Fame inductee, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient & the greatest Hammond B3 master of all time, BOOKER T. JONES, to Beverly’s Larcom Theatre. Response was overwhelmingly positive, so we’ve done it and tickets are now on sale to the public, but they’re selling fast. Get your tickets here and don’t miss out on Booker T.’s only New England appearance on this U.S. tour. You may remember him from Booker T. and the M.G.’s, with hits like “Green Onions,” “Hang ‘Em High,” “Time Is Tight,” and “Melting Pot,”. While at Stax Records, Booker T. also wrote “Born Under a Bad Sign” with William Bell, which was recorded in 1967 by Albert King and later by Cream and Jimi Hendrix and covered live by many others. Here’s Booker T’s powerful version with his excellent touring band!

BREAKING NEWS: GARY BACKSTROM BAND to open for John Cafferty on Jan 31 in Beverly
You’ve all heard the Gary Backstrom Band, right? (If not, you’re missing out on one of Gloucester’s most exciting musical ensembles.) Be sure to catch these guys when they open for John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band on Saturday, January 31 right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre. Good seats are still available RIGHT HERE. Some of the best available seats are in the balcony GET THEM HERE.
Gary’s got quite an impressive bio (see here) having opened for the Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks and Los Lobos among many others.
Besides being one of the area’s top guitar players, Gary is also a very talented singer/songwriter. Here are a couple of videos of the band at Harbor Loop with special guest Carlos Menezes Jr. on Sax (great solos in the 2nd video):
