Put on your dancing shoes! Cause, Greg Luttrell is Dave Sag’s guest tonight…@ The Rhumb Line 8:30-11:30 4.30.2015

Dave says,

Just back from the Sum Yung Guy food festival in Shanghai,  let’s welcome back Mr. Greg Lutrell, citizen and catarrh master. Sings like an angel, too. Mr.l spends a goodly time in China each year, but he’s home now and willing to regale you with his seasick repertoire. It’s always a pleasure to follow him around all his groovy machinations, curve balls and all. Drumming up some enthusiasm will be my old buddy Mr. Roger Brocklebank. With his hollow leg, he’ll be taking anybody’s leftovers home with him. Eat hardy and enjoy!

Want to learn the concert business? Maybe we have a job for you.

GIMMELIVE IS HIRING

Vickie and I are looking for someone who wants to learn the concert business and is willing to work at it with determined dedication. We’re a very small company. Everybody does everything, from booking to promotion to customer support to data entry to house and stage management to washing towels and shopping for the artists’ back-stage goodies. So will you.

This is not an easy job. Hours vary from week to week. Priorities can change suddenly without warning. No matter how much you prepare, the unexpected always happens. And sometimes it all seems to be going terribly wrong.

If you are an excellent communicator, great with people, thrive on challenge, love to learn, love music, embrace the unknown and can find clever ways to get stuff done with almost no supervision, this could be the job for you. It’s not an internship. You’ll get paid.

Watch our video (below) and get a taste of what it’s like to put on an outdoor concert (most of our shows are not outdoors, but it’s the only video we have that shows some of the work we do behind the scenes).

CLICK HERE. Check the box that says, “I want to be on your Street Team” (Oh, did we say you’ll be managing a street team too?) and tell us why you want to learn the concert business. We’ll get back to you.

SELL OUT ALERT: The Smithereens at Larcom on Saturday — Get $25 tix now before they’re gone

As promised, we’re letting you know before all the tickets are gone for New Jersey-based, power-pop rockers, The Smithereens on Saturday right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.  You can still get tickets here (starting at only $25 — half of what you’d have to pay elsewhere) and there are even a few of my favorite seats left in Balcony Center Row L (get them here).

The cool thing about these guys is that even though they had monster hits in the ’80s (e.g., “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” “A Girl like You,” “Blood And Roses,” “Only a Memory,” “Blues Before and After”) which they could easily just live off, they’re still writing new songs and releasing new records that are as good or better than their classics.  Check out this Video of their new song, “Sorry.”

M.E. Productions Presents ‎LEON RUSSELL w/ guest Allen Estes May 30th 8pm @ The Larcom Theatre

leon russel promo

Rock and roll Renaissance man. That best describes this Music Legend. Leon Russell’s long and storied career includes collaborations with a virtual who’s who of music icons spanning from Jerry Lee Lewis to Phil Spector to the Rolling Stones. A similar eclecticism and scope also surfaced in his solo work, which couched his charmingly gravelly voice in a rustic yet rich swamp pop fusion of country, blues, and gospel.

Between his solo work, contributions to high-profile albums by other artists, and screen exposure in the Bangla Desh and Mad Dogs & Englishmen documentaries, Russell became a veritable superstar in the Seventies. Russell has won two Grammy awards, chart-topping hits and was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. Don’t miss this Intimate Show with a Music Legend.

1980s hit-maker Martha Davis interview on 104.9 SUNDAY @ 9AM

This Sunday (4/19) at 9AM, Aurelia Nelson welcomes 80s rocker Martha Davis, founder of The Motels, to her North Shore 104.9 radio show “Curtain Up” for a spirited interview about what it’s like to be “the most charismatic female performer in rock,” as described by Robert Hilburn of The Los Angeles Times.

Martha Davis is credited with helping to define the New Wave sound that dominated MTV and pop radio in the 1980s.

But she’s not one of those rockers who’s satisfied to live off her prior success. She’s still writing new songs, recording new music and discovering new talent, like Boston Music Award Winner Ruby Rose Fox who opens The Motels show down the road at The Larcom Theatre on Wednesday (good seats still available, especially in the balcony — get them here.)

And she’s about to release a film of her live performance at the 50th anniversary of the famed Whisky-A-Go-Go, where she changed the face New Wave music forever.  Check out the trailer here:

Cape Ann Symphony Mother’s Day Concert Saturday, May 9 feat. BSO Soloists

Last month (in this post) I pointed to the roots of today’s music.  This month, the Cape Ann Symphony takes the whole thing one step farther.  First of all, they’re playing one of Beethoven’s most extraordinary compositions, the 7th symphony.  My guess is that the audience will jump to their feet after this finale just as they did last month for Beethoven’s first piano concerto, featuring David Deveau.

Beethoven’s 7th has been used in a number of films, most recently the 2nd movement in a tremendously powerful scene in which Academy Award winner Colin Firth as King George VI delivers a triumphant speech after struggling all his life with a terrible stutter.  Check out that scene in this video:

Now imagine hearing the whole symphony live.

And if that wasn’t enough, they’ve invited Boston Symphony Orchestra father and daughter team Richard and Erin Svoboda as soloists for Michael Gandolfi’s Double Concerto for Clarinet and Bassoon.  Plus you’ll hear an overture by Rossini, the most popular opera composer of his time.  You really do want to be there!  Get tickets here.
