Here is Sandy Favazza and Donny Femino.  Sandy’s father was the skipper of the Saint Peter III  He landed millions and millions of whiting at our dock with my Grandfather Captain Joe and Father and Uncle Charlie.

Donny Femino was a football star and currently retired from teaching at GHS after many many years.  He lobsters for Frank and I down at our dock.

Here’s Donny now-
Hey Donny, where did all that hair go?

Carol, Haley and Pete Mondello Represent At The Springfield Sportsman Show,

Tom Porter & Shamus

Tom Porter owns The Susan & Kimberly, a lobster boat.  Tom is one of about six guys in this harbor that have the absolute best stories to tell.  You could listen to the outrageous antics that he has lived through fishing for hours and hours and never get tired.

He brought down Shamus the day before yesterday, a 4 month old Irish Jack Russell.  It’s kinda funny to see rough, tough Tommy Porter handle this little puppy.

The Jennie C Hauls Lobster Gear Video

This video was shot by FOB Paul Frontiero.  I suspect we will be getting many more contributions from Paul who was the man responsible for printing the GMG tshirts for the Russo Family fundraising.

Joe Grillo’s Net Profit

Joe Grillo bought the Net Profit.  His old boat The Wanderer was old, tired and slow as molasses.  To say that Joe is happy about the upgrade would be an understatement.  Video at 8:00AM

The Wanderer

Do you see the buoys on the old Wanderer’s antenna and the Net Profit?  The same, red on top, yellow on the bottom- Joe Grillo’s buoy colors!

From Ellie-” Local fisherman and all around good guy, Paul Vitale, recently visited the Essex Avenue Children’s Center during their month long Ocean study. He brought along an assortment of sea creatures to show the children. As you can see, they were fascinated by his presentation! Thank you, Paul! ” ~ Ellie

 Thanks, Joe!

Working On A Dragger’s Net

Ending the leased day at sea program and cutting our boats down to 18 days fishing per year does not sound very promising.

Working On A Dragger’s Net

If you look under the black circular rollers you can see the net has been damaged.  It’s hanging there in shards.  Looks like the boys have a lot of mending to do.  No fun, no fun at all.  Sometimes a dragger will risk going over some rough or jagged rocky bottom to try and find some fish and the result is a damaged net.  Sometimes it can pay big dividends, sometimes you an end up with huge tears in the net.  I’m not saying that is what happened here, but there is definetly damage to repair here.  Not exactly the best of weather to have to do this kind of work.

Working On A Dragger’s Net

See this fisherman working on the net?  He was hopping back and forth from the boat’s net reel back onto the dock.  My knees would have been shaking like a leaf but he was just going back and forth like nothing.  One little slip and he was going for an icy swim I’ll tell you that.

Pete Mondello Displays Repaired Lobster Buoy

Here’s Pete Mondello with some repaired buoys.  The thing about the Mondello boys is that they never ever stop.  They always are doing something weather it be tinkering on the boat or repairing traps or buoys.  They never stop.  Talk about energy.  It’s just go-go-go.
