Georges by Night Sat May 15th Featuring Music By Chelsea Berry

From Dean Salah-

Hey all, the next Georges By Night dinner will be Sat. May 15th, tickets on sale at Georges $25 per person. We will be serving a delicious Chicken Madeira meal and due to popular demand we are going to run an encore performance with Chelsea Berry.  Chelsea put on a spectacular performance last month and this will give those who missed her another opportunity.

This is a BYOB night so bring your favorite spirits along.  Tickets sold out in two days last month so if you are interested please get down to the shop as seats are very limited. Hope to see you all for another great evening,  Dean

Sushi In Tampa Doesn’t Suck

Pictures from the Rabbit

It was the first time I’ve tried rolls that were wrapped in some type of lettuce instead of rice (see bottom picture).

The lettuce made the roll much lighter.  I’ll have to look for this type of sushi around here.  Any of you readers know of any local sushi joints that prepare it this way?

Crawfish at Clearwater Bait and Tackle

I’m not exactly sure what seafood and Elvis have to do with each other but hey we’re in Clearwater- a delightfully redneck quirky town.

Seasonal Openings Part III

The list of what has opened is long so I am switching modes to only speak of Cape Ann eateries about to open or changes in hours as spring turns to summer. Speaking of summer, how do you like the summer weather? It only rains on Monday and Tuesday? Last year and 1986 it seemed like it only rained on Saturday and Sunday. No more of that. Hot and humid here on out.

The Cupboard: Latest rumors all point to the Cupboard Opening tomorrow, Thursday, May 6. Today is Cinco de Mayo but tomorrow is “Seis de Mayo por la almejas fritas”. Works for me. Please do not chase me down if they do not open on Thursday. Their Facebook page is requesting job applications. Unfortunately my daughter has another month of eighth grade.

They have to be open by Saturday and I will be there to get some onion rings and a fish sandwich. I just got my camera out of hock so I might even be able to take a photo instead of these blurry iPhone shots. (Sorry about that again Jerry Remy burger.)

The Rudder: I was all excited about reading in the Gloucester Daily Times yesterday that the Rudder was going to be open year round. But reviewing Joey’s interview of Jeanie Boland last fall after the renovation and using my keen reading comprehension on the GDT story I now realize they may be open only to private functions in the winter. We need to change that. Every time you eat there make sure you mention how much you want The Rudder to stay open year round. Duckworths can do it and so can the Rudder.

But for now, The Rudder is Thursday to Saturday open at 5PM then on June 17th they will be open all week through the summer.

Fun Fact: My brother Chris just told me he ran the raw bar at The Rudder in the 80s. So did he kill anyone off? 8)

My Warm Weaher Drink Of Choice When Away From Home- Stoli-O Tonic Prepared Here At Handsome Harry’s Naples, Fl

On warm days if I’m going to have a cocktail it’s usually an Stoli Oranj (Stoli-O in the bar trade) and tonic.  It is smoothand refreshing and while some flavored vodkas can have an aftertaste which I’m not fond of Stoli-O on a hot day when on vacation and I don’t have access to my favorite local Beauport vodka will suit me just fine.

I had *ahem* a few of these last night 🙂

Hooters Wings= Not So Good

Just sayin.

Live Blog Post From Hooters In Naples, Fla

The Rabbit has overdosed on food for three straight days and let’s just say that between his farts and burps I really can’t distinguish between which is which. They smell like a mixture between dog poop and salami that’s been left out on the Florida pavement.

So he’s been complaining about how his stomach is all messed up. Rewind to 25 minutes ago when the Rabbit despite his stomach problems orders ip 20 hot wings and a dozen oysters.

Really Rabbit? Ya think that’s all that neccesary?

So I’m currently watching him struggle through the wings and oysters, all the while complaigning about his stomach.

He can’t help himself. In a tailspin and lacking the abilityvto pull back on the stick he won’t be happy til it’s all gone

Silly Rabbit!

I Guess That Means We Gotta Hug

So last night we closed down this bar in central Ybor City after consuming a couple of pitchers of margaritas.

There was a guy with a guitar singing along side us and he says toward the end of the night- “Make sure you take care of your waitresses and bartenders”

Just as he said that our very nice young buxom waitress rolls up to our table to presumably ask if we want a refill or whatnot but before she could say anything the Rabbit (the chubby guy in the foreground of the picture) says to her- “The guy says we’re supposed to take care of you so I guess this means we gotta hug.”

Nice Rabbit! 🙂

For the record she didn’t bite.

Slap Ya Mama Seafood Boil Seasoning At Clearwater Bait and Tackle

On the way back from Clearwater beach I had the Rabbit stop at Clearwater Bait and Tackle to get some pictures of the Live Blue Crabs in the tanks for the blog.

Little did I know we were going to run across this gem of an item.  Talk about blog material gold!

Get you some “Slap Ya Mama” seafood boil seasoning ASAP Ya hear?

Top Dog Lobster Roll

Top Dog Lobster Roll, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

As much as I heartily recommend y’all going to Top Dog on Bearskin Neck if you’ve read any of my rantings about lobster rolls then you know my take on what place lettuce or celery has on a lobster roll-none.

I’d ask for it “Joey-Style” and when they look at you with a puzzled look on their face because they’ll inevitably have no idea what “Joey-Style” means, tell them “without the lettuce- DUH!

We will forgive this minor transgression because everything else at this place was outstanding.

The Rabbit Goes In For The Kill At Madfish- St Pete’s Beach

After the ball game we went to St Pete’s Beach to chill out for a bit and met up with Ricky Ticky Tampa, one of my close friends from my youth and brother to the Best Man in our wedding- DK.

Ricky has a penchant for knowing the very best spots to eat in whatever town he happens to be living and yesterday he kept his streak alive with yet another outstanding call foralate afternoon meal.

Madfish on St Pete’s Beach looks on the outside like any diner would but once you enter the doors you realize that this is no plain old diner (not that there would be anything wrong with that)

Inside the walls are adorned with dark wood paneling, the countertops granite, the refrigerators and appliances all top end. This place is actually a fine dining spot that also features some incredibly creative comfort food.

The service was spot on, the food outstanding. It seemed out of place on St Pete Beach where everything else is so laid back and less current. St Pete Beach seems like it has a lot of history and most of the places up and down that strip are still living in the past-some of it in a good way and some in a not so good eiighties redneck kinda way.

In any case the numerous awards that Madfish St Petersburg have won are well deserved and much like Ferg’s is a must visit place if you are going to a ball game at Tropicana field, Madfish is a must visit if you find yourself in St Petersburg. I would drive thirty miles out of my way to go to this place.

Top Dog – Bearskin Neck, Rockport

We got mac and cheese for the girls at just over $2 each. An order of fried clams to split between the mrs and I, and I also got a chilli dog.

Just Hit Up Top Dog In Rockport

Based on GMG contributor Paul Morrison’s glowing reviews I took the family to Top Dog on Bearskin Neck in Rockport.

He was spot on. This place is a gem and must go-to spot for casual faire while in Rockport. Very reasonable prices. Great food, excellent set- up, spotless bathrooms. A top notch establishment the Top Dog is.

Eight thumbs up from the Ciaramitaro family.

Thanks Paul for the recommendation. We probably never would have tried it had it not been for you!

Pics coming

Hop Skip and Go Naked Recipe

Make sure you ask for a Hop Skip and Go Naked next time you go to Lat 43.  If you want to make them at home they are very simple and everyone that tried them couldn’t believe how much booze was in them because they really taste just like lemonade.

We ran out of Mason jars to serve them in as the people were lined up 4 deep to get them at the GFAA Celebrate Gloucester event Thursday night.

here’s the simple recipe-

empty 1 12 oz can of frozen lemonade concentrate into a pitcher

fill the empty can with beauport Vodka and add to pitcher

fill the empty can twice with light beer and add to pitcher

add ice

mix well

serve in mason jars with a lemon garnish

get hammered!

caution XXX they are really devastating because you can’t taste the booze so watch your alchohol consumption and don’t drive after a couple of these. XXX
