Mary Tucker Submits East Main Street Photos from 1905

photo-1

Good morning Kim ~ these photos came from a publication I have titled “Photographic History of Gloucester” published in 1976 by Cape Ann Bank and Trust.  Notice the street car tracks ~ next photo you will be able to see the street car.  Last night, Joey’s challenge reminded me of these photos which prompted my guess.

That’s my corner, Plum Street! Wonderful fun to see. Thanks for submitting Mary!

My Valentine

dad bodybuilding0001
Hi Joey,
Many of your readers are asking for “more” after my last posting of “the beach guys.” Here is my Valentine, my husband Bob, The Love of My Life. Photo was taken about 1949, when he was recently discharged from the Navy. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific on LCT and LST landing crafts during WW2  as a diesel machinist in many major battles. At the Weight Lifting Club of the old YMCA, Bob was known as “Big Bob” by his many younger body building admirers. He never entered any contest, but you have to agree he would have won first prize. Bob will be 90 years young this year. He has discovered the fountain of youth, as he continues to lift weights in his home gym.

Calling All Chocolate Lovers ~ Happy Valentine’s Day ~ with a Gorgeous Gift of the Most Decadently Delicious Chocolate Cake Ever!

Divine and To Die-for Flourless Chocolate Cake Recipe From Our Friends Chef Matt Beach and Meghan Pozzi

Meghan Pozzi Making Flourless choclate Cake cooking class ©Kim Smith 2014 copy

Last week I had a fabulous and fun evening taking Chef Matt’s and Meghan’s Decadent Desserts cooking class, held at Savour Wine and Cheese. I was planning to post this on Valentine’s Day, but thought that if you want to make the cake for your loved ones for Friday, I had better share today. And, if you don’t have time to make the cake, please contact Chef Matt and Savour Wine and Cheese. They will be happy to make this yummiest of cakes for you!

Oftentimes flourless chocolate cakes seem somewhat leaden-like to me. Have you had that experience? That simply is not the case with Matt and Meghan’s recipe. This is the dreamiest and most cloud-like chocolate cake imaginable! My family loves my chocolate cake with lemon frosting and they will barely allow to me make any other cakes for birthdays. I think they may change their minds after sampling this cake! My daughter Liv is coming home next week and I’ll post a photo then.

Every month, when the new issue of The Noise comes out, I’m grateful for the forces that brought T-Max to Gloucester and for his perspective on local Music.  This month, he chose to feature a Massachusetts band with a unique sound, so we can all enjoy watching their star rise together: Darlingside.  See the article here … and check out this video!

Seaside Garden Club Presents All About Bonsai February 11th

Hi Kim- I hope you can post this in GMG for our club. I am very interested in this topic.  Hope all is well with you – keep up the good work!  Love, love your posts and photos – amazing as always!

Best regards,
Kate Willwerth

The Seaside Garden Club kicks off 2014 with a program all about Bonsai on February 11th at the Manchester Community Center.  Social time begins at 7:00 pm and the program starts promptly at 7:30 pm.  All are welcome, guests $5.  Light refreshments will be served.

Bob Downey will introduce the club and guests to the wonderful world of bonsai.  He will present the history and art of bonsai as well as demonstrate bonsai creation and styling. Bob Downey was the president and now co-president of the Northeast Bonsai Association for over 30 years.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this art.

Bonsai is the art of dwarfing trees or plants and developing them into an aesthetically appealing shape by growing, pruning and training them in containers according to prescribed techniques. In Japanese, bonsai can be literally translated as ‘tray planting’ but since originating in Asia, so many centuries ago – it has developed into a whole new form.  Overall, bonsai is a great interest, hobby or even profession to undertake. It has to be said that a successful bonsai is most definitely a horticultural masterpiece.
