The Ardelle early Thursday morning going by Kettle Island.

The weather on Sunday was beautiful for the Seine Boat races. So nice to see many spectators cheering on their favorite teams.

After 170 years, we don’t want Cape Pond Ice to end up “on the rocks” like the scalloper Artemis, or lost at sea, like the Andrea Gail!

Beach and going over to the Paint Factory for the amazing I Am More project, artist Amy Kerr.

Over at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum on Friday, these great 8th graders launched 2 more boats. The faces on these kids speaks volumes of how much fun and educational this experience is. The teachers who were there, I wish I had them in 8th grade. Thank you to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum for all your experience and to Teacher Dave Brown and Amy Donnelly for your dedication to these students. It was also so wonderful to see Harold Burnham watch some future boat builders launch their creations.
Last year I went over there to take photos of this great way to help students learn a new skills. Amy one of the teachers invited me back. It is fun to watch and learn. The teachers at O’Maley and the Essex Shipbuilding Museum are really great. On Friday, they will be launching this boats.

The family of Cigar Joe Frontiero brings Good Morning Gloucester these treasured recordings of Fishing out of Gloucester MA in the early part of the century. I’m happy that the family entrusted GMG with these priceless recordings and am proud to be able to have the platform in which we can archive and share with the community.
Thank you to the family of Cigar Joe Frontiero

Cigar Joe Frontiero born in 1898 these tapes were recorded in 1981 when he was 83 years old.
Click here or the arrow below to listen to the recording
The history behind the tapes: Someone had asked Cigar Joe for an interview for an oral history project but Cigar Joe decided to do the recording himself. At the time he was having trouble with circulation in his legs and spent most of the time at home so he bought a tape recorder. He had trouble with the tape recorder and threw all of the tapes away. His mailman took the trashed tapes, spliced them, and made copies. He gave Cigar Joe copies and kept backups (with Cigar Joe’s consent) in case the originals were lost. This occurred in 1981.
For The Other Parts Of This Series-
Look for part V of VI April 13th and 16th
Here are a few photos and plans which will be shared at tomorrow, Thursday May 31st’s 7 pm Community Meeting & Open House at Cape Pond Ice, Fort Wharf, 104 Commercial Street, Gloucester. They may be of interest to GMG viewers who aren’t able to join us:

Magnolia Harbor looked so peaceful with a Lonely boat.

The pinky schooner Ardelle awaiting her passengers. Looking forward to taking a ride.

We spoke about Ryan’s work to help educate people by teaching them very simple techniques that can potentially save lives. These techniques can be applied through all walks of life especially with the high incident rate in America’s most dangerous profession- commercial fishing. Listen to GloucesterCast 281 at this link to hear Ryan speak on the subject.
Ryan writes:
Hi Joe,
Thanks for inviting me on to discuss the Stop the Bleed campaign and the trauma classes that I have been doing. My hope is to spread the word and get as many people trained as possible. In a sad twist of irony, as I was leaving the dock after our talk I heard on the news there has been yet another school shooting with multiple fatalities, once again reinforcing the need for this type of training.
And for anyone who wants training or wants to order med kits they can reach me at ryan@readinesssolutionsgroup.com

This class is always fun. Have taken this class about 5 times and always enjoy it. Thank you Dave, Len, Barry and Tony for all your help. For more information on the Essex Shipbuilding Museum please follow the link below:
