With All These Bad Lobster Rolls – Who Is Rocking The Roll????

My obsession with the Lobster Roll started when I moved here and after a few trips to Maine. I have truly found some flawed rolls and pointed them out to you the readers, but lets look at two people doing really cool things with the Lobster Roll. Negativity no more – It’s Christmas!

Red Hook Lobster Pound DCThe Lobster Pound, in the Red Hook section Brooklyn, spun off a food truck in the Washington DC market that looks like it is putting out some quality rolls. They tweet their location and their customers follow in large numbers. The prices seem fair for the market.

The Lobsta Truck LALA owns the food truck movement right now and big is not the word. Of course they have the Lobsta Truck. They post a schedule on their web site and hit all the big movie studios for lunch. They are doing an $11 roll in California, which to me is shocking. It’s 30 bucks for fresh air in LA.

You can even Download a cut out of their Lobsta Truck.

Both of these trucks put out the Maine and Connecticut (AKA Long Island) version of the roll. I know we all prefer the Maine style, but I know people like warm butter with their lobster so I can’t knock them for that.

Why is there no Boston based truck? I bet Gloucester could support one of these during the summer months. It is my dream to own a food truck. If anyone wants to back me with a large cash investment, I will do the following:

  • Buy this Lobster and place it on top of a food truck
  • Get Lobsters from Captain Joe & Sons
  • Use the Mrs Recipe (licensed of course)
  • Find someone to get up early to do the work!

Enjoy the Holidays  and stay tuned for the readers poll for the best Lobster Roll on the North Shore – Patrick

Let’s Play “Would You Rather?” – McRib or McLobster

My favorite game we used to play when we would go out a lot was called “Would You Rather”. Essentially, the game makes you pick between 2 ridiculous items or scenarios and then clearly explain your reasoning behind it. The only other rule is that neither is not an acceptable answer. Here it is:

You are stranded on the highway for 2 days on Interstate 90 and you finally walk to a rest area. Everything is sold out, no fries, no burgers, no McGreasy anything, except they still have the McRib and their New England Classic McLobster Roll.

Which would you choose? – Post in the comments and your reasoning behind it.

What Does a $50 Lobster Roll Look Like???????

Via Grubstreet

“Last week, Ed’s Lobster Bar tweeted a photo of its white-truffle lobster roll, and we haven’t been able to stop drooling at the thought …….. The $50 roll is “the exact same as the regular [$27] lobster roll,” with the addition of three grams of white Alba truffles. “A little on the bottom, a little on top,” McFarland tells us.”

Does this thing look sick? Seriously, Ed from NYC have you lost your mind? It wasn’t enough to charge ill informed New Yorkers 27 bucks for a lobster roll, so you went with the old throw some expensive truffle on it since you are hedge fund rich trick!  I can’t believe this place won a Food Feud on TV. Why does the insanity continue with the Lobster Roll – Can’t anything be kept simple anymore? I want to film one of those Miller High Life Delivery Guy commercials where some Lobstermen come and take this guys lobsters away from him!

Sincerely – Patrick

Put some fun into the Holiday Season with Elf on the Shelf!

I must say when I heard about Elf on the Shelf, I was skeptical (probably due to the $30 price tag). This year we are all about the season and decided to go for it.

For folks with little ones or true believers like Joey C, this adds a whole new element to the season. It goes like this -You read the book, name the elf and move him every day from December 1st to Christmas. Kids can’t touch him and the best part is he is watching over and reporting nightly back to Santa.  The kids are of course well behaved, freak out each morning with the new found spot and you get to drink wine and come up with fun hiding spots. I call this a Win – Win!

I love the great names the kids come up with. My little ones named him FRICK the ELF!

I called a few places, but could not find it in Gloucester. It is available at Learning Express in North Beverly and of course  on Amazon. If anyone knows other places locally, please post in the comments. And Yes, the person who self published this is a millionaire!

This weekend we got off to to my hometown, Highland New York to visit family and friends. If you ever get to the Hudson Valley, you need to check out the Walkway Over the Hudson. They got $38 Million dollars to turn an unused train bridge that crosses from Highland to Poughkeepsie NY into a walkway. It is a must see!

A 1941 Gloucester Football Scorecard

Almost 69 Years  Gloucester High School beat Winthrop 31-0 at Miller Field in Winthrop. How do we know? The official score card is on Ebay. For me finding this score card sparks visions of a different time in history. When I saw that there was a roster list I said to myself, I bet there was a Frontierro on this team. Sure enough, if you look at the Gloucester substitutes #29 Frontierro – 173 lb Guard.

This game took place less than a month before the attack on Pearl Harbor and I am sure that many of the men who fought on the field went off to serve their country in World War II.  5,600 men and women from Gloucester served in World War II.

Today is veterans day and we at GMG would like to thank all those who have served in the armed forces.  If you see someone in uniform today or a veteran you know, please take the time to thank them and have them share a memory of their service.

A Great Night Out

On Friday, we were able to get a night out and check out the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport.  To be short and sweet, this place is amazing. I highly recommend checking their schedule and finding one event just to check it out.  The opening act was Rockport High’s own, Polygroove Orchestra. They got a standing O and graciously dedicated songs to their grandparents in the audience. Grace Kelly, an up and coming Jazz artist, then hit the stage. She is definitely one to watch with a stage presence beyond her years, a beautiful Jazz voice and a smooth alto saxophone. She pointed out that she has played many beautiful places across the world, but none with the beauty of the Shalin Liu.

If you are a big Jazz fan and are up for a once in a lifetime event,  Dave Brubeck will play a special fundraiser for Rockport Music on November 21st. He’s over 90 years old and still touring!

In a rush to get out we never did eat before the show, but were glad to find that the Franklin Cafe serves until midnight on the weekends. The bartender served up some great drinks and we had some great hand cut fries.  You can’t spend time at the Franklin without admiring and discussing their 2 Jeff Weaver paintings. The one below is definitely my favorite. A few pics from my camera phone.
