AN INVITATION TO PLAYERS TO PERFORM!

The Cape Ann Community Band Presents: A Night in Italy Featuring Italian classics and vocal solos

Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the Antonio Gentile Bandstand

Stage Fort Park, Gloucester, 7pm, (Rain date Wednesday, August 19, 7pm)

David Benjamin, Director of the Cape Ann Community Band invites area musicians to participate in an exciting program of Italian music featuring the band with local vocalists Kathleen Adams and Michael Pallazola in concert. The band will rehearse for six weeks beginning on Monday, July 6, at 7pm at the Gloucester American Legion Hall, 2 Washington St., Gloucester.

They will prepare a concert of special arrangements for band and voice as well as many pieces within an Italian theme. The program will include popular music in many styles. We ask that players commit to at least four of our six rehearsals, including the final two rehearsals. The program is geared toward young and more experienced players. Families are encouraged to participate as well as former school band classmates. The music represents varying levels of ability; there’s something for everyone. Players will need their own instruments. Percussion equipment are provided.

Once again the band is proudly sponsored by Bank Gloucester. Patrick Thorpe, bank president, says “We love this group. They represent the whole of our Cape Ann Community and they always play a terrific program. We’re glad to help.”

Director Benjamin echoes Thorpe’s excitement. “We’ve always had a lot of fun preparing our concerts. It’s a supportive mood at our rehearsals. Everyone is learning and enjoying the company of fellow musicians.”

For information please contact David Benjamin at 978-281-0543 or by email at David@DavidLBenjamin.com

Vickie and I went to see Dreamgirls at North Shore Music Theatre last night.  Stellar performances from the entire cast.  Excellent voices.  Loads of fun! Check it out here:

Before the show our own Senator, Bruce Tarr presented North Shore Music Theatre owner, Bill Hanney with a citation congratulating him for reviving the theatre on the anniversary of it’s 60th year in operation.

As you might expect, Sen. Tarr was a natural on stage, offering fun facts about the theatre, which opened in 1955 with “Kiss Me Kate.”

Don’t miss Dreamgirls.  It’s only running through June 14, so get your tickets soon (right here), before it sells out.  Check out the video below.

Gloucester’s Police Chief Leonard Campanello is a ROCK STAR!

Gloucester police Chief Leonard Campanello – photo: Allegra Boverman

Chief Campanello’s “Angel” project began yesterday.  If you don’t know what that is, read this article in the Gloucester Daily Times.

The Chief’s project has been the subject of national news for about a month now and he’s even been challenged by the district attorney (see this article in the Boston Globe).

But our Chief remains cool as a cucumber.

Just listen to him in this NPR interview from yesterday — especially the part where he says, “We appreciate the district attorney’s comments, but the fact is that the police have always had the discretion to charge or not charge and not just with drugs, with most crimes.”

If you see Chief Campanello, please congratulate him on his vision, compassion, brilliance and cool head.

This is definitely the guy you want protecting our city and helping to heal our drug problem. BRAVO CHIEF!

We knew we were lucky to have Chief Campanello come to Glocuester when he brought the crowd to their feet with his Springsteen version of “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” at the first Cape Ann Winter Solstice in December 2013.  Sheila Roberts Orlando captured the moment perfectly in the photo below:

Hooglio Bastistos at Cape Ann Cinema and Stage THIS WEEK!

HooglioHooglio Bastistos is back.  Gloucester’s own singer and semi political comic story teller.  With his infectious original songs that you can’t seem to shake for days, Hooglio returns this week in a new live show.  In “From Here to Flustuania” Hooglio receives a ‘message from God’; he has a daughter he’s never met and must go on a quest to find her.  His daughter ‘Hooglietta’, played by Sofia Gadbois, is also on a quest to find him.  With Gordon Baird playing Louie DeRoach, Roman Gadbois as Mc and a cameo visit by Ian McColl and Steve via Video, the result is an irresistible hour of Gloucester’s most adorable characters; great songs, fun local comedy and video.

It’s a perfect stage production for the Cape Ann Community Cinema.  The room is perfect for Hooglio’s beloved audience, accommodating over 100 people, with snacks, beer, and wine.

What started as a request by his wife, Susan Albiero, for Hooglio to sing one song at a fund raiser to support a Musical Performance Tour of England for her kids, has mushroomed into a four night show.  This show has been a family affair with the four Gadbois family members busy working together, with Gordon as a sort of adopted son.

The show is May 27/28 (Wed/Thurs) @7:30 and May 29/30 (Fri/Sat) @8:30at the Cape Ann Community Cinema and Stage. 267 E Main St, Gloucester. (above St Peters club)   Advance Tickets $15 may be reserved by credit card online at www.capeanncinema.com.  Will call tickets $15 if reserved by phone (978) 509-6000. Student and Family Discounts by calling.  $18 night of the show.

You can be on James Montgomery’s new CD

James Montgomery in Boston Herald interview

Tomorrow (5/21), you can be in the audience when the James Montgomery Band records a new live CD right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.

This concert (and the CD) will also raise money for James Montgomery’s foundation V is for Veterans, which focuses on helping disabled veterans.  James donated most of the tickets to veterans organizations and the VA hospital, but you can still buy tickets here.

James will be joined by David Hull (from Aerosmith & The Joe Perry Project) on bass, Cliff Goodwin (from the Joe Cocker Band) on guitar and Jeff Thompson on drums.  Young, rising country stars Whitney Doucet (who sang with Keith Urban) and Lexi James open.

Be sure to scream and shout and clap loud enough to be heard on the CD, so when it comes out you can get one and play it for your friends — fast forwarding through the songs and waiting for the applause, of course.

Here’s a video of James the last time he was at The Larcom.  Notice the crowd in the middle of the song … this could be YOU!

Click here to read an excellent Boston Herald interview with James — especially the part where he talks about B.B. King!
