Where Zat Winner! It’s under the train bridge!

Jason got the correct answer this week. The photo was taken under the train bridge. There were a lot of excellent guesses.
Thanks so much for playing. Congrats Jason! You can pick up your t shirt at Capt. Joe’s later today or whenever you get a chance.
The Amazing Jay Albert
From Jay of Cape Ann Images–
“With permission from Mayor Carolyn Kirk I was able to climb a series of stairs and ladders to the top of Gloucester’s historic City Hall tower. After a fire destroyed the original building, work was begun in 1870 for a then sum of $100,000! Recently the tower has received renovations to correct a lean in the tower and has been strengthened. The windows weren’t the cleanest but I managed to get these shots. My handheld GPS showed 153′ above sea level at the upper most reaches.

Magnolia Lions Striper Tournament
Growing up in Magnolia was the best!
Farmer’s Market Dinner- Pam’s Black Bean Salsa
Last week while I was shopping at the Farmer’s Market, I sampled some of Pam’s Black Bean Salsa. I’m not a big salsa fan, but I love black beans and corn. It was delicious!
I had spent my limit, so put off buying some until this week when I got more stuff from the local farms and picked up a pint of the salsa (after, of course, trying another sample!)
I was starving when I got home and wanted something quick and easy. I threw some gound turkey in to start. I had no idea where I was going with it, but I often do that hoping for inspiration!
I had just gotten a bunch of veggies at the market, so I sliced up zucchini and summer squash and dumped that in with the turkey. Usually I’ll use diced tomatoes for a base for sauce, but this time I used 1/4 cup of the salsa. No other seasoning was needed.
It was excellent! And to add to the meal, I steamed an ear of the best, freshest corn on the cob!
Absolutely yummy! And everything except the ground turkey came from the Farmer’s Market!
If you’ve made a meal primarily from foods bought at the market, feel free to send them in to us! Thanks!
Gloucester bandstand concert pays tribute to Herb Pomeroy on Aug. 9
From the Beacon–
The 2009 Summer Concert Series at the Antonio Gentile Bandstand in Stage Fort Park in Gloucester continues Sunday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. with The Herb Pomeroy Tribute Concert, featuring Donna Byrne and the Herb Pomeroy Band with Greg Hopkins. The concert includes tunes from the songbook they used for many years.
This is the first time the band has played together since the bandstand concert at Stage Fort Park in August 2007, the weekend after Pomeroy’s death.
“Longtime Herb Pomeroy collaborator Donna Byrne was greatly affected by Herb’s death and she decided to retire soon after his passing,” said concert organizer David Benjamin. “Aug. 9 will be Byrne’s first public performance in quite a while and the first that Herb’s band has played together since 2007.”
The musicians are donating their fees to the Herb Pomeroy Scholarship Fund at Berklee College of Music.

Survival tips for Triathlon Weekend
Canal closure, road travel, best places to park and watch
By Jonathan L’Ecuyer
Staff Writer– Gloucester Daily Times
After more than a year of planning, thousands of spectators are expected to descend upon downtown Gloucester this weekend to cheer on the nearly 900 athletes participating in the city’s inaugural triathlon.
Formulating the most effective parking and spectator viewing plans was no small task for triathlon organizers, but with help from Gloucester Police, the Public Works Department, numerous volunteers and even the Coast Guard, the city believes it is fully prepared to safely handle the onslaught of humanity.
The Gloucester Triathlon, the brainchild of Gloucester native and professional triathlete Janda Ricci-Munn and Bill Burnett of Cohasset, has engaged the community in a special way, said Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association (GFAA) co-President Dick Wilson.
“The cooperation we’ve received from everybody in the community has been phenomenal,” Wilson said yesterday.
According to Burnett, the inaugural race field has closed; it boasts 26 relays teams of two or three people and 797 individual competitors.

From Dave Sag on the Rhumb Line’s Thursday Night Blues Party
“Got a special show for y’all this week as I drag my dearest friend, John Rankin, out of the slickery swamp of Louisiana and wring him dry on Fred’s font of perpetual resurrection: the Rhumb Line. Educator, performer, vocalist, citizen, weekend father, this guy can do it all, and at the same time, too. He’ll be digging deep into that good ol’ Nawlins pile of steaming R&B, and throwin’ in a coupla originals to boot. You gotta hear this.
Behind him, pushing the beat will be our old buddy, Forrest “gump” Padgett on heart attack drums, Paul Ahlstrand on tenor twelve sax, and yers trooly on base. C’mon down and tell John how much you like my punctuation!”
