The View From Captain Joe’s
From Bill O’Connor In Stop and Shop Parking Lot-
My View of Life on the Dock
Never in my life have I been so undecided on the lesser of two evils. The felt tip marker point went back and forth from Obama to Romney at least 5 times before checking off my final decision.
I wonder how many are just like me, undecided right up til the final second in the booth and I wonder how close of a race compared to every national poll which basically had them split the results will be.
In any case, get out there, VOTE!
EARN YOUR RIGHT TO BITCH!
Feels good though.
Like Vicky and Peter Said in their post yesterday, if you don’t vote, don’t go bitching afterwards.
Hi Joey,
B had a chance to sign the windmill blade over the weekend, so he signed his name with a sketch of General Grievous, just under Sefatia’s Sig. These blades are HUGE by the way – and the must have built a special trailer just to transport them…
Enjoy!

About the Project:
"The Opus 139 Project: To Hear the Music" is a documentary entering its final editing stage that celebrates great music, great craftsmanship, and the unique workplace ethic at C.B. Fisk, Inc. The completed film will tell the interwoven stories of founder Charles Brenton Fisk, his workshop in action, and the enterprise of creating, installing, and voicing a single new pipe organ, in this case Opus 139, commissioned by the late beloved Peter Gomes, for his magnificent Memorial Church at Harvard University.
It is a rare opportunity to be able to document and experience the intricate design process, attention to detail, and stunning craftsmanship involved in the construction of this "King of Instruments." In the last act, the soaring glory of the new organ at Harvard, Opus 139, will be heard at its inaugural concert. The Opus 139 Project is a film about the evolution of a single pipe organ, 3 years in the making, and needs to raise $15,000 in 31 days to complete production. Timeline for finishing is May 2013.
This is, has been, and will be a labor of love, rather than a for-profit project.
Sincerely,
Dennis Lanson, Director/Producer & the Opus 139 Project Team.
Brilliant!
Who needs some store bought steroid laden Turkey when you can bait ‘em in your back yard? Just sprinkle a little seed around and when they least suspect it on Thanksgiving Eve pop a cap in their ass!

Hi Joey,
I spread a little bird seed around the bird feeder for the chipmunks and squirrels and now turkeys… Put your Thanksgiving order for your fresh bird:

Hi,
Joey, I think that you will get a kick out of this Rt 66 tape, which shows Rocky Neck in 1961. Also, the pictures from 1961 compared to pictures taken in 2009:
Can you place the locations?

Click the photo for the panning 360 degree view of the entire cabin. I’ve never seen so many knows, controls and levers in one confined space in my life. To say you would need to be a genius to know what each one does may be the understatement of the century.
Thank you Robin Jones from Northeast Ohio for forwarding it to us.

We won’t be taking comments on this post but it will be interesting to see how close the GMG readership predicts the outcome of the presidential election compared to local, state and federal results.
My guess is that it mimics the results in Gloucester and somewhat closely in the state but will be furthest off deviation wise from the national election.
One thing is for certain, I can’t wait for it to be over with so all the hate filled extremists on the right and left can focus on something else.

You never know what you will find when you visit the sea, and yesterday was no exception. Imagine my surprise when I was shooting pictures and there in the rocks was a bright green object. Of course, I needed to investigate and found this little sea horse … Written on it was “The Hurricane Sandy Project” with instructions to sign, take photos then throw it back into the sea… so I willingly obliged.

No matter whom you support, it’s important to excercise your right to vote!
On Tuesday, we’ll be electing state and federal officers to represent us in Boston and Washington. In addition, you will be asked to express your opinion on six ballot questions covering such issues and legalizing medical use of marijuana, allowing doctors to prescribe medication to allow a person with a fatal disease to take his or her own life and whether or not to overturn the so-called "Citizens United" decision of the Supreme Court that allows corporations and unions to spend without limits in elections.
This is our most precious right, one that many have paid the ultimate price to preserve. Honor them and honor our country by making time to vote on Tuesday Nov. 6. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Polling places for Ward 1 are:
Ward 1, Precinct 1: East Gloucester School,9 Davis Street Extension.
Ward 1, Precinct 2: Veterans Memorial School, 11 Webster St
If you are unsure which precinct you are in, click here to see a map showing the boundaries for all the city’s five wards and 10 precincts.
In addition, below are two links to files showing the front and back of the ballot that will be used in the city, including the six ballot questions.

I hope to see you at the polls on Nov. 6.

If you are a GMG FOB from outside of Cape Ann before you go any further please comment below the post where it says “comment” as to what brings you back daily to the blog.
This morning when I got the email from Sem Sutter who is an avid reader of GMG daily and works down in Georgetown I began to wonder what it is about GMG that brings people from outside our geographic location back over and over and has them subscribing to GMG and requesting Bumper stickers and participating in our comment sections.
I am honored that our team here has developed such a huge following all over the country and in often cases all over the world and obviously when you are pulling down 50-60,000 visitors a day in a city that has roughly 30,000 citizens there are folks from other places that are checking this thing we’ve created out.
GMG is obviously a hyperlocal blog which mainly focuses on Cape Ann but when you look at the map of where the hits come from, our readership is global.
The current GMG hits map when I’m writing this at 6:07AM 11/4/12
You can access the current GMG hits map here
So I am curious as to what it is about GMG that brings you back if you’re not from here.
Did you visit one time and have fond memories? Do you dream of moving here? Is it the photographs? Is it the humor and camaraderie of the GMG family? Is it the GMG breaking news which 9 times out of 10 you will find here first?
What is it that compels you to make GMG a daily or hourly visit?
Thank you so much for being part of our GMG community from afar and don’t forget to leave a comment letting us know what it is that brings you back. If you don’t see the words comment directly below this post click on the title of the post and you should see it then.
I’m anxious to find out what drives you back here, thanks again,
-Joey

His Essex Coastal Byway Guide Is THE GUIDE for anyone coming to visit from out of town but also for locals who want to know more about all the incredible opportunities to explore the magical area we live in.
We all know there are a ton of things to do around here but through the daily drudgery of life we often forget what is right outside our windows. Instead of asking what to do and heading to the mall or the movies there’s so much more culturally to do and the Essex Coastal Byway Guide has it all laid out for you.
You can get it now at the Book Store of Gloucester, Toad Hall in Rockport, Manchester By the Book, Book Shop of Beverly Farms, River’s Edge in Ipswich and the Wenham Tea House. Also: Peabody Essex Museum, Cape Ann Museum, Lynn Museum, Custom House Maritime Museum, Jabberwocky, Bertram & Oliver, Brass Lyon, Joppa Flats Audubon, the Bird Watchers Shop and my main source of sustenance, the Warren Street Market Deli. More added every day!

Like Why?
Does anyone not get that it’s gonna be darker earlier and the sun is gonna come out later in the morning?
Why confuse the whole country and make everyone in this day and age of more and more global economies and inter state commerce do we need daylight savings time? To mess up scheduling on computers?
Just seems like a whole lot of wasted energy instead of just having the time be the time.
Screw Daylight Savings Time!
