Stage Readings from M. Lynda Robinsons 10 Minute Play Workshop Press Release:

When: Saturday, April 27th, at 7:30 PM
What: Hear Cape Ann actors read 6 original 10-minute plays penned by local playwrights. The final step for a new play is to have directors put actors and the play on stage in front of an audience for their feedback. Come be a part of this stage reading. Reception to follow.
Who: M. Lynda Robinson and her 3rd “Writing a 10-Minute Play” workshop group at the GWC will present a series of staged readings for the 10-minute plays they have been writing. Writers include: Carole Frohlich, Kent Bowker, Susan Frey, Jeana Grady, Ann McArdle, and Constance Shute.

I get roughly 2-5 emails a day from people I may or may not have heard from in forever whose email accounts get hacked and the hackers generally send out mass emails from their email accounts that say something like-
Hey check this out-
www.ifyouclickonthislinkyourregonnabescrewed.co
Really at this point we should all have had enough experience and know not to click on links to sites we’re not familiar with but if you’re not here’s your warning.
Apparently my email account just sent oput a round of these. Don’t click on link’s in anyone’s email to you that is just a line and a link to a weird site you’ve never heard of.

Poll- WiFi On Planes or TV On Planes You Vote.
I’ve flown AirTran this year who boasts of having WiFi equipped planes. On this Jet Blue flight where I am composing this post and will save it as a draft on my laptop until I can get home to a WiFi signal and upload it there are seats which are all equipped with Direct TV and a pretty good selections of stations.
If you could pick just one, which would it be- $10 per flight WiFi or free direct TV?
Next scenario- Free WiFi or Free Direct TV.
Personally I’d take the WiFi in both situations but I’m curious what our readership would pick.

Earth Day is being celebrated between April 20th and April 27th 2013 here in Gloucester. Because in the past I’ve never seen a comprehensive list ahead of time and neighborhoods who would like to have a plan to meet, I think Good Morning Gloucester is the perfect place to be the clearinghouse for Local Earth Day Information.

Cape Ann Trail Stewards invites the public to join the inaugural clean up workday at the city of Gloucester’s Goose Cove Reservoir on Sunday, April 21st (the day before Earth Day) beginning at 1PM.
We will meet in the lot along Gee Avenue. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather (the event is rain or shine). Bring rakes, shovels and buckets if you have them. CATs will supply gloves and other materials.

Teachers and students at all five elementary schools will visit their school gardens to plant a variety of salad greens.
In the end of May we will have a district-wide School Salad Day where children get to harvest and eat the salad greens they grew.

The 26th Annual Gloucester Pride Stride Walk will begin at noon on Sunday April 28, 2013. The 5 mile walk will start and finish at Stagefort Park, while enjoying scenic views of the Boulevard, Rogers Street, State Fish Pier, Main Street & Boulevard. NORTH SHORE ARTS ASSOCIATION GRAND OPENING EVENT:
WINE AND CHOCOLATE PARTY
The North Shore Arts Association will celebrate its season opening on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 6-8 pm. This combined Artist and Associate Member reception will feature a wine and chocolate party. More than 100 oil, watercolor and pastel paintings as well as graphic works and sculpture will be on display.
The public is invited to meet the Association’s new board members who have been hard at work giving the gallery a “new look”!
North Shore Arts Association is pleased to provide a diverse calendar of events this season including four Member and two combined Member and Associate Member exhibitions as well as its Annual Art Auction to be held August 17. In addition, the Adult Workshop Program will feature 18 workshops in a variety of media. NSAA also features concerts and several “free” demonstrations and lectures.
NSAA’s historic red building located at 11 Pirate’s Lane in East Gloucester provides the opportunity to view one of the largest collections of paintings and sculpture on Cape Ann.

Gears in our historic Mill Building
Friday April 19th, we’re looking for volunteers to scrape our new (used) floats prior to lowering them into place alongside the Harriet Webster Wharf. This will be on-going during the day; check with us for specifics.
Additionally, we’ll welcome volunteers at mutually agreeable times to prime/paint new windows to replace the green painted plywood currently covering the window frames on the Mill Building.

Hello Jason,
Thank you for your offer of assistance with repairing the vandalized Digital Dogtown posts. I have been carefully planning, in consultation with experts, the best approach to repairing my project and to funding these repairs. I have received some offers of donated materials and labor, but I know that there will be significant costs to replacing the damaged posts. I met this evening with the Gloucester Open Space and Recreation Commission to finalize a plan of action with their approval. We will be ready to put these plans into action as soon as we have sufficient funds.
I have made arrangements to use the Gloucester Fund as the agency for collecting and using financial donations. The Gloucester Fund is a volunteer organization for collecting and disbursing funds for local charities and projects of benefit to the community, such as the summer fireworks and parades. They are a 501c organization, so donations made out to them are tax deductible; your cancelled check will serve as your receipt for tax purposes. If you are interested in helping in this way, please send a check made out to "The Gloucester Fund", with a note on the memo line that this check is for "Digital Dogtown". These can be mailed or delivered to me, Alan Davis, at 2 Goodwin Road, Gloucester, MA 01930. Feel free to pass this email message to anyone you know who might also be interested in assisting.

Joey C’s Proposal For Changing School Vacation Week Locally
Kids missing school isn’t a good thing. It’s not good for the students. Not good for the teachers who have their performance tied to standardized testing. Not good for education in general. I’m fairly certain we can all agree on that.
With all public schools taking the same exact school vacation week off what it has created in the travel industry is a huge demand all at once and if anyone wants to travel during school vacation week prices not only double, but they often times triple or quadruple.
So parents who would like to take their kids away often times take their kids out a week before or a week after a winter vacation and once those kids are in third grade or so they can lose a fundamental building block of their education. Teachers whose job performance are increasingly tied to state standardized test scores are penalized for children’s absence if they aren’t there to learn and those students bring their average test scores down.
So I ask, why not just move school vacation week forward or back a week so we don’t have to compete with the entire state for flights to Orlando or some other vacation destination at the very same time?
You would have better attendance because parents wouldn’t pick an off school vacation week to go away.
The people who wouldn’t take their kids out of school on an off school vacation week might be able to afford to take their children away if every public school district in the State didn’t take the same exact week off.
Teachers would benefit from higher attendance rates and presumably higher standardized test scores because the kids would be in class.
I see it as a win all the way around.

Come to The Hive in Gloucester for a one-day rummage sale full of all kinds of art supplies. Over the years Cape Ann Art Haven has acquired many great art and craft supplies. We’ve used a lot in our classes, but there are some materials that we just don’t have room for anymore. We’re cleaning out our closet and raising money for Art Haven so we can keep offering a creative space and inexpensive art classes to the community. We have paints, fabric pieces, books, matte board, paper, frames and more! The sale will take place Saturday, April 20th from 9AM to 3PM at Art Haven’s new community center, The Hive, 11 Pleasant St., Gloucester. Our summer class schedule is ready! Check it out here. We have weekly sessions of a fun, global program where we will be exploring art and culture of a different country each week. We also have two weeks of collaboration with Maritime Gloucester and one week with Cape Ann Museum.

Before the summer, we will have one more session of regular classes at Art Haven and The Hive. At Art Haven, we will have clay, pottery, drawing/printmaking and painting for kids. The class schedule will be the same as the current session on our website.
At The Hive, we’ll have pottery classesTuesday 3-5pm and Thursday 6-9pm. We’re also excited to be adding a pastel classThursdays 3-5pm and charcoal portrait drawing Thursdays 6-9pm. Photoshop will still be Tuesday nights, from 6-8pm and Open Studio on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm.
