Hey Capt Joe! Thanks for having me on the show months ago. You mentioned giving you an update on my book. So here goes…I’m having a book release party this Saturday (May 2nd) at The Grove in Manchester, 7 pm. The bookstore in Gloucester (on Main) and The Book Shop of Beverly Farms are currently carrying the book. (Method 15/33 is the title). Here’s the link to my site with all the reviews so far. This month at GAAC we have a real treat in store, an astronomical travelogue extraordinaire from GAACster Dwight Lanpher. Dwight and his wife Terry embarked on an astronomy tour from Paris to Greenwich in 2013, and returned with a story — and pictures — of great telescopes, great observatories, great clocks, the unlikely history of the discovery of Neptune and the saga of a carpenter’s lifelong work trying to solve the problem of finding longitude at sea. Dwight will regale us with tales of key individuals from Sir George Airy — he of the Airy disc — to Urbain Le Verrier, who predicted the orbit and position of Neptune using only mathematics. Come on in for a great time with great friends and lots of goodies, and an amazing and colorful astronomical tale.
The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club meets on the second Friday of the month at the Lanesville Community Center in the Lanesville neighborhood of Gloucester from 8:00 to 9:30. You can learn more about the club on our website, http://gaac.us, our Facebook page, at http://www.facebook.com/gaacpage or our Twitter feed, @gaacster .

On Saturday May 9, an incredible annual event will fill downtown Gloucester with art, music, theater and dance! The Gloucester Public Schools arts festival is a showcase of student artwork from all of our schools. This year for the first time, Gloucester preschool students will be participating too, making the festival the biggest it’s ever been.
Paintings, drawings and sculptures from students in grades preschool through 12th will be on display all over town. Tons of local businesses have jumped on board and volunteered to display art in their windows and on their walls.
Concerts, drama workshops, dance demonstrations and more will take place all day at City Hall, Cape Ann Museum and Sawyer free library.
A painting project run by West Parish art teacher Paula Morgan will be going on all day at the Cape Ann Museum sculpture park – everyone’s invited to grab a brush and help create giant, colorful, collaborative paintings!
Check out our fun video and the schedule below for more info. The festival is free and open to the public- hope to see you there!
Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer raises money for breast cancer care and research through delicious dessert-filled events.
For the second year in a row, the Serenitee Restaurant Group, including Alchemy and Latitude 43 in Gloucester, is participating in the week-long event. For the event, each restaurant has created their own special dessert, like Latitude 43’s BRA-zilian Panna Cotta, and 100% of the sales from that dessert will go directly to Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.
Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer will be held Monday, May 4 through Sunday, May 10, 2015.
Last year, Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer had almost 350 participants in over 100 Massachusetts communities and raised over $78,000. Let’s make this year even better!
