Camera Porn

Have you heard of Lytro yet?- the new camera that captures “living pictures”. The way it works is it captures the entire field of light and in turn gives you the capability to choose what you want to be in focus. You can also share the image with other people and they can change the focus again themselves. It looks like it gives you the ability to change depth of field, without really knowing what you are doing. Pretty cool technology and I would love to see it in person, so I added myself to the waiting list. You can check out more images and info at http://www.Lytro.com

Homie Represents in Rio

Homie represents in Rio de Janeiro! Homie gets a sky high view of the beach searching for the girl from Ipanema. Maybe he’ll go down to the beach later and get a up close and personal view of the “fio dental” bikinis.

Miniature Gloucester

Lookout Park view of the city with a miniature spin.

Playing with our new camera we had to try the tilt shift effect and I think it works pretty well!  The camera is the Canon SX230hs. We purchased it from Camera Corner in Rockport, which has all the latest Canon and Nikon models.

Joey accepts award from the Unitarian Universalist Church

Last night 13 members of our wonderful community were honored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Gloucester for their outstanding service to the community of Gloucester and beyond, including our boy Joey.  It was a great gathering of people who love Gloucester and wonderful to see everyone getting the recognition they deserve. The Church did a wonderful job putting together the event.

Here is a video of Joey accepting his award.

The Gloucester Brick House for Sale

I’ve always loved the brick house at 21 Middle St.  The outside has so much character, the brick, the vines, the large windows and the peek at the little garden patio.

Now the home if for sale and just as spectacular on the inside and full of history. There is a whole site dedicated to the sale. It’s not in my price range at $750,000, but maybe it’ll make someone else’s dream home.

Excerpt from the website: “The Gloucester Brick House, or as it has otherwise been known, The Alfred Mansfield Brooks House, has a patchwork history of colorful characters and associations. Built by that inveterate mover and shaker, George Rogers, bon viveur, sea captain and owner of the Surinam sugar trader California , who bought in Boston the interior of an 1820 Charles Street house and a 1790 West Cedar Street house attributed to Charles Bulfinch, barged them up to Gloucester, placed the Bulfinch atop the 1820 and built the brick shell around the two.”

Chincoteague-Fishing

According to our boat guide these are the last three boats of the fleet. They go out for rockfish, flounder, monkfish and sometimes dredge for oysters.

Ponies of Chincoteague

One reason I wanted to visit Chincoteague was to see the ponies on the beach. On Assateague Island there are 150 ponies that run wild in the marshes and along the beach. They are managed by the Volunteer Fire Company with vaccines and annual auctions to thin the herd. The legend is that the ponies of Chincoteague are descedents  of horses that washed ashore from a wrecked Spanish galleon off the coast of Assateague Island 300-400 years ago.  The book and movie, Misty of Chincoteague, made the Island famous and a tourist destination. The book was written in 1947 by Marguerite Henry based on a real family of Chincoteague.

Here are the ponies we saw from the road into Assateague Island

Trip to Chincoteague Island

Just came back from a motorcycle road trip to Chincoteague, VA. Chincoteague is home to Misty the Pony,  Assateague Wildlife Refuge, fresh oysters and blue crabs! Long ride, but a fun trip! More posts from the trip to come.

This is a video of us going over the causeway to Chincoteague Island (warning could cause motion sickness).

Lemon Asparagus Pizza

I love making pizzas on weeknights. It’s quick, easy and you get to experiment. It’s pizza, you really can’t screw it up! Here’s the recipe, I made this with what I had in the house and I don’t measure so you’ll have to give it your own spin.

Whole wheat pizza dough- from Stop & Shop (cut in 1/2 for two medium pizzas, or keep whole for large with thick crust)

Cream sauce:
Plain Greek yogurt
Lemon juice (depending on taste)
Minced garlic
Grated Parmesan cheese
Heat until combined, you want it to be creamy, not too watery

Stretch dough and put pizza on pan, I use a large cast iron that I coat with olive oil. Spread cream sauce on pizza lightly covering. Add sliced asparagus and very thinly sliced lemons. You can add more cream sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Lastly, add parmesan cheese to melt on top. Cook in oven at 450 until golden brown.

And Eat!

Agassiz Rock

Agassiz Rock in Manchester is a beautiful hike, besides the huge glacial boulders you’ll see you will get to hear some very loud bull frogs!

Pebbles of Pebble Beach

Cape Ann is filled with so many beaches, and all are unique.  I love the sound of waves gently crashing and retreating from the pebbles.  It sounds even better underwater, for that reason alone its a favorite dive spot.
