Windhover Center for the Performing Arts invites the public to experience Quarry Dance

Windhover Center for the Performing Arts invites the public to experience  Quarry Dance, its signature summer performance event, featuring a site-specific work by New York City-based Alison Cook Beatty Dance.

Free and open to all, Quarry Dance transforms one of Cape Ann’s historic quarries into a breathtaking natural stage where contemporary dance and the landscape converge. Alison Cook Beatty Dance will create the work on site as part of a week-long creative residency at Windhover.

This year’s performances will take place at a private quarry in Lanesville on the following dates:

  • Friday, August 7: 1:30 – 3:30PM
  • Saturday, August 8: 10:30AM – 12:30PM
  • Sunday, August 9: 1:30 – 3:30PM

Performance times include complimentary shuttle transportation to and from the quarry.

Because the performance site is located on private property, parking is not available at the quarry. Audience members should park in the Windhover parking lot near 247 Granite Street (by the Windhover sign), where shuttle service will depart for the performance site. Shuttles will run from WIndhover from 1:30–1:50PM on Friday and Sunday, and from 10:30–10:50AM on Saturday. 

Admission to Quarry Dance, including shuttle transportation, is free. No advance registration or RSVP is required. Donations in support of Windhover’s programming are gratefully accepted.

In the event of inclement weather, performances may be canceled. Audience members are encouraged to check Windhover’s website for the latest event updates.

Windhover gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Rockport Cultural Council and the Gloucester Cultural Council for making Quarry Dance 2026 possible.

Lady Maryland in Salem

Because “I Love Schooners” (contact Joey for available gear) we took a trip to Salem Maritime Nation Historical Park Central Wharf to visit the Lady Maryland. We just missed the on deck tour opportunities but we did get a bonus to observe Friendship under repair. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a pink schooner! This pungy schooner’s mission is educational and I envy those students. She is quite lovely.

Another GREAT week of shows at The Cut!

Friday we’ve got Robert Ellis Orrall! – A night of original music, songs from his career, and stories about a life in the music industry. Come see why Taylor Swift recently mentioned him by name in her Songwriter Hall of Fame speech! Then an afterparty with Funbucket!! Doors at 5pm. Show at 6pm.

Amy Gallo and Eric Reardon will be live in the restaurant from 7pm – 10pm. No Cover.

Saturday is King Yellowman. This show is part of the Legends of Reggae Series presented by Happy Valley! Seats are almost sold out, but there are still GA Standing tickets available. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm.

DJ Vito is on vacation, but DJ SKULLY will be throwing it down in the restaurant starting at 9pm. No Cover.

Sunday we have Juanito Pascual Trio playing the music of Jimi Hendrix with a Flamenco twist! Everyone raves about this show. Don’t miss it! Tickets are still available. Doors at 7pm. Show at 7:30pm.

Sunday Sessions kick off at noon. We will have 50 cent wings and FREE pool and $5 Notch Cans!

Whale Watch From Judy B

Hi Joey,
Having been on Cape Ann Whale Watches as a resident in the area, it was fun to hear you discuss the whale watch you went on last weekend. It is always an amazing experience! Every time is different, but always worthwhile. And you are correct – it is not just for tourists. 
We had a particularly moving experience on one trip that was quite unique. It was several years after my Dad had passed away, & our kids had adopted a particular whale in his memory. My daughter & I were at the rail & a humpback came up right by that side of the boat. The naturalist onboard identified the whale as Littlespot – the whale the kids had chosen!

But the more surprising part was when the naturalist said that they had not seen this whale in quite a few years! Needless to say, we were blown away & felt that it was my Dad/their Papa saying hello. That’s because of all the places in the vast ocean on thatday, & where we were on that day, that this particular whale was at the same exact spotwhere we were & came up on the exact side of the boat literally right by us. We called my husband & son over, so they could see Littlespot, too. It was wonderful.  And the kids were thrilled. How lucky were we?!
Every whale watch is an experience not to be missed.

Jalapenos For An Extra Margarita Monday

We celebrated Margarita Monday at Jalapenos on Main St with a cranberry margarita (very refreshing) as well as Chicken Margarita on the menu. I rarely explore the Jalapeno entrees beyond tacos, fajitas and such but since it was Margarita Monday, it felt destined I should try the Chicken Margarita. Boy, was that a pleasant surprise! Super yummy sauce adorns the chicken breast along with rice and beans. This will not be the last time I order Chicken Margarita! Try it. Jim ordered shrimp tacos and we debated between ourselves the benefits of flour vs corn tortillas. I think we settled on corn for tacos. Anyhow, he ate them all while I brought some of the chicken home. We also ordered the addicting chips and salsa which are now an added charge, but well worth it in our books. Cheers!
