Seven fishermen were rescued by a good Samaritan fishing vessel after their vessel began taking on water Friday night.
The crew of the Gloucester-based vessel Grace Marie issued a may day around 10 p.m., saying the boat was taking on water and experiencing rapid flooding, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Noel. The a 65-foot fishing boat was about 80 nautical miles east of Gloucester.
The Coast Guard put out a urgent marine information broadcast, asking any vessels nearby to answer the Grace Marie’s may day.
The Dawn T answered the call, according to the Coast Guard, and was able to bring all seven crewmen aboard and ferry them home.
There were no injuries reported, Noel said.
Noel had no information about the status of the Grace Marie, or other information about the incident Saturday night.
According to a federal vessel registry, the steel-hulled Grace Marie was built in 1978.

We took an afternoon whale watch with Cape Ann Whale Watch last week and it was the most amazing watch I have yet experienced. Our crew capt John and naturalist Tina and staff took the long ride out almost to Cape Cod in order to find these feeding whales for us. It was very much worth the extra time riding out there. There was very active feeding activity with at least 20 different whales. Honestly, it was a little overwhelming to have activity left, right and everywhere around you. The crew was busily filming the experience for themselves, which is a good indicator right there of how unusual and awesome it was. Tina sums it up nicely in this short video. If you have not been out, you really should go! It’s a great half day activity from any of the whale watches in our area. Hi, Joey,
At the Horribles Parade, the Gloucester Racial Justice Team lost our fabric banner. Photo attached.
It was taped to my car – I didn’t notice it was lost until the parade was over.
Whoever finds it, please contact me, Sally Waite, 207.210.4162?
Thank you!

BOSTON – Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante (D-Gloucester) joined her colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives to unanimously pass a transportation and infrastructure bill authorizing $10.9 billion for projects, including $400 million for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to address ongoing safety concerns identified by the Federal Transit Administration’s Safety Management Inspection, $250 million for the East-West passenger rail project, and $50 million to improve energy efficiency in Massachusetts’ commercial fishing industry.
“The Commonwealth’s transportation infrastructure is the lifeblood that keeps our communities and economy moving. From individuals and families, the self-employed, local small businesses and beyond, our infrastructure keeps Massachusetts moving forward. This bill makes investments for critical transportation projects throughout the state,” said Ferrante. “I am pleased that this bill also includes an amendment I filed to authorize $50 million for grants and no-interest loans to improve energy efficiency in our commercial fisheries, a crucial aspect of our local and state economy.”
