THIS SATURDAY, July 16, 2 – 4 pm COMPLIMENTARY FINE WINE TASTING @ SAVOUR WITH OWNER KATHLEEN MORGAN

_____________

Thereโ€™s something about summer that makes us want to drink pink wine. I donโ€™t mean that sickly sweet stuff that some of us remember from the โ€˜70s and โ€˜80s. Modern rosรฉs are crisp, light, flavorful, and dry. And they are perfect for a summer afternoon or evening on the porch, the beach, or the boat. Iโ€™ve picked out five rosรฉs for this weekโ€™s tasting, which means that along with the four rosรฉs available to taste on our wine tasting machine, youโ€™ll be able to taste nine rosรฉs on Saturday. Come down and find your favorite! — Kathleen

Wines

Casa Canevel Proseco Rosรฉ DOC, Treviso, Italy

Varietals: 85%Glera,15 % pinot noir, Alc. 11%. Located in the finest region for the production of Prosecco, Valdobbiadene, Casa Canevel (meaning small cellar) graces the table with this shimmering rosรฉ spumante. Casa Canevel produces refined sparkling wines from the local Glera grape. The rosรฉ pours a light, golden pink and is fizzy in the glass. Aromas of strawberries, grapefruit, and apples are followed by an elegant acidity and fruit nuances on the palate. Perfect as an aperitif, the wine also pairs well with hors dโ€™oeuvres, fish, and poultry. $17.99

Chateau de Campuget Rosรฉ, Nimes, France

Varietals: 30%Grenache noir, 70% Syrah Alc.13% The Chรขteau de Campuget is above all the adventure of a family from the North who came to settle during the World War II, not far from the Mediterranean… in the Costiรจres de Nรฎmes. Since 1942, a single objective of Chateau Campuget has been to produce Great Wines of the Rhone Valley while respecting terroir and identity. The rolled pebbles of the Rhรดne, the sun of the South, the Mistral, the Syrah, the Grenache are some fundamental elements that make up the identity of Campuget. Domaine de Campuget dates back to 1640, but they make a very modern rosรฉ. Its color is peony pink, with aromas of red berries and currants. On the palate, raspberry and strawberry flavors blend with a crisp acidity to make a very refreshing glass of wine. Pairs well with picnic foods and anything from the grill. $14.99

Domaine de Capreoles Cossinelle, Beaujolais Villages, France. Varietal: Gamay Alc. 13% Capreoles means vine tendrils, and references the history and tradition of the vertical growth of the vine, the connections between growers and of the relationship to the earth, which is solid granite under the vineyard soil. This family-owned vineyard practices organic farming, and they named their rosรฉ after the ladybugs (cossinelles) their daughter found in the vineyard during their first harvest. The wine is pale pink, with delicate peach and strawberry notes on the nose and palate. Pairs well with summer salads, seafood, and soft cheeses. $19.99

Herdade do Rocim Mariana 2021, Alentejo, Portugal

Varietals: Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Alc.12.5%

Herdade do Rocim is located in the Lower Alentejo region of southern Portugal. The estate was founded in 2000 with the aim of focusing primarily on native varietals. Since purchasing the estate, Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro have completely regenerated the vineyards and built a new, state-of-the art winery. They planted higher-quality varietals, indigenous and local varieties, and also some international grapes, such as Syrah and Cabernet. They have also recently started to produce olive oil from 90-year-old trees, with the intention of recapturing the traditions of the region.ย The organic Mariana rosรฉ is a delicate pink color, with red and blue berries on the nose and palate. It is medium-bodied and dry, with an earthy finish, and has good tannic structure, and balanced acidity.ย Pairs well with fish, shellfish, and pizza.ย $17.99

Domaine de Fontsainte Gris de Gris Rosรฉ, (Kermit Lynch Selection) Corbiรจres, France. Varietals: 90% Grenache Gris, 5% Carignan, 5% Mouvรจdre, Alc. 12.5% The first vineyards at Domaine de Fontsainte, in the Corbiรจres appellation, were planted by the Romans. Artifacts found in these vineyards, such as an old coin dating from the time of Marcus Agrippa in 25 A.D., are a testament to its antiquity. The original domain was built around a thermal spring, which was later named for the local, twelfth-century patron saint, Saint Simรฉon; hence Fontsainteโ€”the saintโ€™s fount. Yves Laboucariรฉโ€™s family has been making wine here since the seventeenth century. The Fontsainte vineyards surround the hamlet of Boutenac in the area known as โ€œThe Golden Crescent.โ€ This swath of land is one of the sunniest in the appellation of Corbiรจres, enjoying south-southeast exposure, and protection from the cold, northeast winds by a large 500-hectare forest. The cooler sea breezes from the Mediterranean help this sun-soaked terroir achieve balance as well. A full-bodied and lush wine, brimming with strawberry summer fruit, but dry and crisp. Pairs well with shrimp cocktail and salad Niรงoise. $17.99

Cape Ann Marina

Last night was a wonderful kick-off event for the Bluefin Blowout. You’ve heard us talk about this year’s tournament a lot and as tournament time nears, we’ll be covering it significantly. Last night’s event was beautiful and very successful (more about that later), but I was struck by the quiet of the marina outside of the tent. As captains/crews/boats arrive and the competition kicks off, those docks will be bursting with excitement, competition, and camaraderie. Good times ahead!

There’s A Lot Going On At Cape Ann Coffees

I just needed a little treat and I had not been to Cape Ann Coffees on Bass Ave in a while, so I stopped by. Closing time was approaching but the staff handled the various customers as though they were the first of the day. There was a minor problem with an order that was efficiently resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. Although I had no idea of “Sammy Cacciatore” and his claim to fame, he stopped by as well. The younger customers and staff seemed to be well aware of actor Chris Romano’s work. He acknowledged the comments and was friendly to his followers.

There’s artwork currently being featured by photographer John Abisamra which caught the eye of several customers; well worth stopping by for a look! There are treats and sandwiches and, of course, coffees. I had a fresh squeezed lemonade and a pastry while I read my newspaper and observed the goings-on. Thanks for the respite Cape Ann Coffees and staff!
