I have some news to share with you about the Cape Ann Beacon. This week, July 30, will be the last edition of the Beacon. The company has made a business decision to discontinue publishing the Beacon. I will still be taking care of other Gannett newspapers on the North Shore, so if you have any events where you would like to draw in a crowd beyond Cape Ann, please let me know!
It’s been really nice working with you. Thank you! — Jane Fosberry Enos

As an update to my previous post regarding an up close visit from a fawn and its mother recently, today we looked out the window and were greeted by the sight of TWO fawns!!!! They came up even closer to the house, eating voraciously as Mom looked on. A couple of bicyclists startled them into running toward the woods but otherwise they seemed most fearless (as youngsters tend to be). What fun to watch them frolick and explore the yard! More photos and additional details can be found at Pat D’s Photos and Adventures Facebook page.

Our Hook-A-Cure event, held in Gloucester, MA, is a fun, family friendly, fishing tournament and fundraising event hosted by our organization, the Scrawney-Morgan Foundation. We started this Striped Bass / Bluefish fishing tournament in 2018 to raise funds to combat cancer in memory of Russell “Scrawney” Morris, a lifelong Gloucester resident and avid fisherman, and have been working to make our event fun for anglers and land-lovers alike! In 2019, we partnered with the Joe Andruzzi Foundation to help us meet one of our core values of raising funds for families financially affected by cancer diagnosis. As of June 2021, his Foundation ( jaf.org ) on just the North Shore has helped families to the tune of over $317,000 in grants! In 2020, though Covid-19 stopped us in our tracks when it came to fishing – we created our “Pint for a Pint” Brewery Blood Drives that has thus far donated over 177 pints of lifesaving blood to the Dana-Farber- Brigham and Woman’s – Kraft Family Bloodmobile and the demand for these drives continues to grow! Now in 2021 WE ARE BACK and eager to begin where we left off pre-pandemic! This year we have added the mighty Bluefin Tuna to our fishing divisions! Our event is August 1st & 2nd, 2021- with our home port being the crowd favorite Captain Carlos Restaurant on Harbor Loop, Gloucester, Ma. Pre-Registration is required. No experience necessary and all rods and reels will be provided by the charter captain and crew. We will fish for Bluefin Tuna, Striper, the elusive Bluefish and Groundfish.
Weigh-in’s will be at the Captain Carlos docks on Aug.1st starting at 5:00 PM and Monday, Aug. 2nd at 4:00 PM. and are open to the public! On Monday evening, 8/2/21, your day of fishing will be followed by a buffet dinner, as well as speakers, awards and an auction. Our event got off to a late start due to Covid protocols – but is now forging ahead! We have less than a week to create a miracle – please join us and help make it happen! If you’d like to support our event but don’t like to fish, join us for dinner festivities! Tickets for dinner only are available! We are also seeking volunteers and a charter for sunday to take out Striper anglers!. No one fights cancer alone! Come join us and you’ll be hooked with such a fun event. For additional information and registrations, please go to hookacure.org or call 978-290-8329 / 978-815-2170 for details! Come join us, cast your line into the wind and help us hook a cure together!

It seems impossible, but Saturday marked our first full day on the back side of Wingaersheek so far this summer. We took our skiff down the Annisquam and stayed from 10:30-6:30. More than the crowd of boats in this photo….I love the patterns in the sand.

As I have noted previously, we often see deer in the backyard but it is not often that a fawn comes for a visit. It was pretty close but mom wasn’t far away. The light and the greenery and the beautiful fawn coloring were irresistible. We love our neighborhood!
