Barns Along the Byway

Another in my series of photos of interesting barns found along the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway. I think this barn is magnificent and I am especially charmed by the mailbox.

  1. If my eyes aren’t deceiving me, that barn was once known as Painter’s Barn and is located on Lufkin Street! When I was a kid, the barn was painted white. It’s wonderful to see the barn still stands to this day!

      1. Lufkin Street is in Essex, and that’s where I grew up. Painter’s Barn was just a quarter of a mile from my house on Lufkin Street. When I was a kid, Painter’s Barn was unused, or might have been used for storage purposes only, and thank God for this, because there were a great many fires in that barn! That dreadful Essex fire whistle would blow the box number of the neighborhood location (Box 14), and, per ususal, a steady stream of gawkers would roar up Lufkin Street in their vehicles and get to the fire at Painter’s Barn before the fire fighters did. It’s amazing the fire fighters found a place to park their own trucks!!!
