From out friends who want a Clean City

From FOB Ainsley Smith

From Keep Massachusetts Beautiful:
The fate of a bill that adds a 5 cent deposit on nip liquor bottles sold in Massachusetts will be decided this Wednesday, Feb 7.

Contact Rep. Thomas Golden at 617-722-2263 and Thomas.Golden@mahouse.gov or Sen. Mike Barrett at 617-722-1572 and Mike.Barrett@masenate.gov to voice your support.

While a 5-cent deposit will not eliminate the vast amounts of nip litter in Massachusetts, we believe this is a common-sense way to reduce the problem

  1. “a 5-cent deposit will not eliminate the vast amounts of nip litter in Massachusetts,” I agree completely. Slobs won’t stop being slobs for 5 cents, therefore this is a wasted effort. Why not then add 5 cents to the hypodermics we find all over the city? It would do nothing.

    1. When the bottle bill first went in many years ago, people thought the same thing, as far as needles you should never pick then up. We have to start to do something. Nothing is wasted when trying to clean up our environment.

  2. Whatever it takes to get people to return the nips bottles. Washington St. sidewalks in my neighborhood have a huge amount of winter trash including lots of nips bottles. There are people who go through the recycle to get bottles to return. Why wouldn’t they also pick up the nips bottles to get those nickels? I pick up the nips bottles in front of my house on Addison and put them with the recycle stuff. I know someone goes through my recyling stuff to get the bottles and I say, Hurray for them!
