I’m very sad – John Nesta’s death brings back memories of the short time – 1977 – when I lived on Rocky Neck and spent time in that building before it was his Gallery. He was an interesting man and I was fascinated by his artistry. R.I.P. John.

On Aug 6, 2017 my brother was visiting and I brought him to Rocky Neck to show him John’s art. John came out and spent a full hour
with us talking of his career and life as an artist, his painting techniques , showing various paintings and encouraging my brother to follow his retirement dream to also become an artist. We entered as strangers and left as friends. I will never forget this exquisitely talented artist of classic Gloucester scenes and his wonderful warm and welcoming personality during our visit. I think it could be said that he was in love with his next painting and the next visitor to enter his studio. Gloucester has lost one of its finest. My condolences to his family and the Colony of Artists he inspired.

From the time he opened his gallery in my Salem building in the early 70’s, I’ve always considered John a man of guts & soul, a man I could trust. We are very sad about his passing & sorry not to know of his service. We’ll miss him & our yearly meetings. Hugs to his children & grandkids.
