Cape Ann TV Lunch and Learn Series: “Green Screen 101”
Cape Ann TV’s Lunch & Learn Series continues on Tuesday March 21 at 7PM with “Green Screen 101”. Presentation and demonstration by Ted Reed, professional video producer.
Think of all the times you’ve wanted to battle with Vikings, dive deep beneath the ocean waves and fly to the moon and beyond. Well, now you can!
Join us for our first Lunch and Learn After-Hours, starting at 7pm on Tuesday March 21st when we explore the basics of shooting on green screen. We’ll cover the basics of what you need for cameras, lighting, and software right here at Cape Ann TV’s studios. Find out how to make your own special effects—special!
WHAT IS GREEN SCREEN/CHROMA KEY?
Chroma Key or Green Screen is a fantastic tool for filmmaking that opens up so many storytelling opportunities. It isn’t too difficult provided you know the basics and is easy to use for your films whether you are making an independent low budget film or Hollywood Blockbuster.
Green screens are a key tool in a technique called chroma keying. In a basic scenario this may involve a person/subject being filmed standing in front of a green (or blue) screen. Then using an editing program the green color is digitally removed from the video file leaving the person/subject. A new image/video is then layered behind them. If done well it should look as though the person is actually standing in the scenario that is happening in the background.
The ability to chroma key opens up an array of options for filmmakers. For example if you are filming a news story and you need your presenter to look as though they are standing out the front of the Taj Mahal, then you could use this technique instead of ACTUALLY taking a news reporter to the Taj Mahal. It saves a lot of time and money.
Join award-winning local video producer Ted Reed on Tuesday March 21st at 7PM at Cape Ann TV for Lunch & Learn After Hours “Green Screen 101”.
Space is limited for this event; please RSVP to rtober@capeanntv.org to reserve your spot.

43rd Senior Care Meals on Wheels fundraiser buffet breakfast at Gloucester House
Many familiar faces and organizations came together in support of Senior Care’s Meals On Wheels, and showed up early to help host a festive and delicious event. We enjoyed sharing a table with staff from Cape Ann Savings Bank, GoldenLiving Center, and Betty and John Erikkala from Lanesville. The Valentine’s Day fundraiser buffet breakfast was pushed back to March 10 due to the winter storm. March being March it was lightly snowing when we left.
I missed John and Betty Erkkala’s Souvenirs of Lanesville talk at Cape Ann Museum about their new book, but noticed the pocket ornament. The book is available at the museum shop. Our marvelous city archives were mentioned once or twice!
Custom place mats gave thanks for the wonderful sponsors. You’ll recognize people in the photographs affiliated with these organizations and businesses.
Our Little Home By the Sea
Our home is officially for sale.
I’m not sure that making the decision to leave the house that you brought your two young children home to if ever an easy choice….and it certainly hasn’t been for us….but, it seems like it is time.
We love this little slice of paradise and it has been absolutely perfect for us for many years…sadly, we know if would be absolutely perfect for us several years from now as well…but, I’m not sure we can ride the storm for the decade or so in between. Our boys are getting older…and bigger….and so is their stuff.
Even as I type this post, I remember carrying both boys over the threshold for the very first time and my heart breaks just a little bit. First smiles, first words, first steps, one split forehead in the front yard and the six stitches that resulted, birthday parties, barbecues, puppies, and saying good-bye to three grown dogs….so much has happened here. Good news, bad news, smiles, tears, laughs, fears, nerves, hopes, dreams, nightmares, little plans, big plans. Us.
Piles of sand from Old Garden Beach have been rinsed off in the yard and the quiet street has watched the boys grow from strollers, to radio flyers, to little bikes, bigger bikes, roller blades, and even an ATV.
Is it possible to not be ready at all…and to be more ready than ever….all at the same time? Because that is kind of how I feel. If I stop and think of all of the Christmases, I may have to remove the For Sale sign from the front yard.
So, our precious little house is officially on the market and is even having an Open House tomorrow at 12:00. If you stop by, check out the threshold to the kitchen that shows how the boys have grown over the years…it is kind of crazy.
If you know of anyone who wants a perfect little home by the beach, in the very best of neighborhoods, with great outdoor living….to begin their own history in….or to downsize and live a simple, happy life…. please share the word.
3 Smith Road, Rockport MA. 12:00 – 1:30. Go say “hello” to Kim Jylkka Lorden from RE/MAX at the Coast and then spend the afternoon checking out the sweetest little seaside town you have ever seen.
