Loved riding around watching the waves and wind. Also went only up to knee in the water at Magnolia Beach and was tossed around like a cork. Be careful.

Cruise Ship coming in on Friday
Volunteers needed to welcome cruise ship’s 2,000 guests
Almost 2,000 visitors will be coming to Cape Ann on Friday, disembarking from a large cruise ship, and the local Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to greet them and offer information on local attractions.
The visitors are passengers on the MS Zuiderdam, a Holland America cruise ship, which will arrive in Gloucester on Friday, Sept. 9. The ship will return to Gloucester for two additional fall visits, on Saturday, Sept. 24, and Thursday, Sept. 29, according to the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
Approximately 1,800 passengers will be on board and an estimated 40 percent have pre-booked excursions, the chamber said. The remaining 1,000 vacationers will be shopping, dining, and visiting Gloucester’s and Rockport’s museums, attractions, shops and cultural districts.
On Friday, the first passengers coming in from the ship on tenders are expected to arrive on shore at Cruiseport Gloucester, 6 Rowe Square, at 9 a.m. and reach downtown Gloucester by 9:30 a, ■ , and Rocky Neck and Rockport by 10:30 a.m., the chamber said.
Volunteers are needed to help chamber representatives welcome this group to Gloucester and Cape Ann.
At Cruiseport’s upper entrance, there will be eight tables staffed by volunteers with a wide array of local maps and brochures. CATAtrolleys will be on hand to transport visitors around downtown Gloucester and CATA buses will be available to take passengers on their regular routes to Rocky Neck and Rockport. CATA will be selling all-day passes for their trolleys and buses for $3.
All other Cape Ann area transportation companies (e.g. taxis, rental car agencies, tour services, etc.) are being alerted to the ship’s arrival and will be invited to transport cruise ship passengers to all Cape Ann locations.
Many local businesses will be offering special discounts and other promotions for cruise ship passengers. The chamber has created a “Welcome Zuiderdam Passengers” sign that business owners may download from http://www.capeannchamber.com and hang at their business entrance.
The Cape Ann Chamber is working collaboratively with the city of Gloucester, CATA, Discover Gloucester, Cruiseport and downtown merchants in Gloucester and Rockport to help make these visits memorable and fun experiences for all and build the demand for more cruise ships to visit Cape Ann.
For more information or if interested in volunteering, people are encouraged to contact Lorre Anderson at welcomecruisers@gmail. com or Peter Webber peter@capeannchamber.com or 978-283-1601.

The best part of a long weekend is a short work week! Enjoy some extra images from the beach this weekend before the storm.

Quintessential Cape Ann
Every once in a while (that’s probably an understatement) a weekend ends and I am left feeling so incredibly appreciative of where we live and the people I am fortunate enough to consider friends and/or family. This weekend was one of those weekends.
While we had to miss the block party on Friday night, we made the most of Saturday with quarry jumping with great buddies, some long overdue downtime with our favorite neighbors, an evening walk along the waterfront, a Wicked Tuna run in down the docks with two bluefin, a pitstop at Salty Franks for some grub to eat on the beach in front of the Beauport Hotel, the Parade of Lights, and the best fireworks display that I have seen in a long time…with great friends. A quick run in with “Grampy and Sherry” topped off our night.
Sunday spoiled us with a trip out with friends to see the Parade of Sails and brilliant views of the schooners that graced the harbor. One of very best days in Gloucester Harbor each and every year….which says a lot because there are so many great days that Gloucester can boast about. After a bit of downtime reading on the deck, we were lucky enough to be treated to a sunset concert on Long Beach. The Cape Ann Motor Inn hosted such a fantastic evening on the beach and Garfish entertained the crowd with three sets of some pretty great songs. We sat on the beach with some of our favorite peeps well into the evening while the kids played football in the sand. One of the most perfect ways to spend a summer evening for sure.
I have to admit we ventured over the bridge on Monday. The horror 😉 I took the boys down to the final PawSox game of the season. While it may not count in the “where we are blessed to live” category….it does fit into the “how blessed we are” category. Baseball, whether at Fenway Park or a minor league team, has always held a special place in my heart and it was a perfect way to end a Labor Day Weekend. The PawSox do a great job of making sure their fans enjoy an inexpensive day at the park….and we sure did!
A weekend this perfect gives perspective.

EXCUSE ME, BUT WHAT IS IT ABOUT HERMINE’S DANGEROUS RIPTIDE THAT IS DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND?
CONGRATULATIONS TO ADVENTURE CAPTAIN STEFAN EDICK AND CREW!
Congratulations to all the schooner Captains and their crews for an exciting race. The winning times were very close, especially in the category of the older large schooners where they are only about five minutes apart (Columbia is not included as she is a two year old schooner). Captain Karl Joyner graciously accepted the Mayor’s Trophy for the Columbia.
The highlight of the ceremony came when Captain Stefan Edick was awarded not only the Esperanto Cup, but also the George Nichols Cup. The Nichols Cup is awarded for seamanship and to an individual contributing to the maritime community. It is not given every year.
