I absolutely love taking a slow trip down the Annisquam River. It never gets old. I started to wonder the other day how many people who live on “the island” have maybe never enjoyed the same scenic boat ride. Some day soon I’ll use the GoPro and make a video, but in the meantime, here are some of my favorite homes, etc.

Often asked this question, I thought it would be helpful to post the answer again, especially as at this time of year when we see numerous numbers foraging in our marshes and along the shore. Both species of birds breed on Cape Ann and the coast of Massachusetts.
The first clue is size. Snowy Egrets are small, about the size of the Mallard Duck. Remember the letter S for small and snowy. Great Egrets are much larger, nearly identical in size to that of the Great Blue Heron.

Great Egrets have black feet and yellow bills. Snowy Egrets have reverse coloring, yellow feet and black bills.
Great Egrets stand very still while fishing. Snowy Egrets are wonderfully animated when foraging; they run quickly, walk determinedly, fly, and swish their feet around to stir up fish.
FYI….traffic is blocked from the rotary all the way over the bridge, past lobster land, past Sudbay, to the route 133 exit. Not moving. It looked like there was a tow truck at the very beginning of it all picking up a car. Slooooow Going!
The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present, New Spaces/Old Places – Merging Contemporary Architecture with Historic Neighborhoods, the second lecture in its Design/Build lecture series. Join, Deborah Epstein (Epstein Joslin Architects, Inc.), one of the lead architects for the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, and Maryann Thompson (Maryann Thompson Architects), architect for the modern rebuild of Temple Ahavat Achim in Gloucester, for an evening reception and conversation on Thursday, July 7. The reception will begin at 6:00p.m. in the Design/Build exhibition gallery, followed by the lecture at 7:00p.m. in the Museum’s auditorium.
Epstein and Thompson will speak about the process each firm went through and the challenges they faced in the design and construction of new public buildings in an old New England community. This lecture is part of a series offered in conjunction with the Cape Ann Museum’s exhibition: Design/Build: The Drawings of Phillips & Holloran, Architects, on view from June 4, 2016 to October 9, 2016.

(Official link – click here) An ad hoc community gathering has been established for Thursday, July 7 from 6PM to 8PM at the Kyrouz Auditorium for citizens to gather and report their collective concerns around public safety, especially with regard to appropriate protocols to needles. This is not an official city hall sanctioned event, but representatives from various departments (including administration, Mayor’s office, Health, DPW, Law Enforcement, etc.) have been invited to better clarify updates, inform the public of opportunities and create a cohesive plan for short term and long term action.
