  1. In July of 1964, a friend of mine from Salem, Paul Cunney and I were at Logan Airport (and for the life of me I cannot remember why we were there!), when we ran into a friend of ours from the Salem Country Club, Dr. Elmo Benedetto, head of athletics at Lynn High School. He asked if we would like to witness the signing between Ali and Liston for the up-coming heavyweight bout in ’65? Of course we would! After the signing (and typical Ali histrionics), we saw Ali sitting in the lounge area and asked for his autograph, which he graciously provided…. signing mine:

    Jimmy
    Muhammad Ali
    World’s Champ
    1964

Later upstairs we ran into Sonny Liston and (wishing HIM good luck), asked for his autograph…. which he provided. Driving back to Hamilton on a hot and muggy day, Paul rolled down his window and his two slips of paper which he had placed on the dashboard, flew out the window! Mine were safely ensconced in my wallet, I still have both slips.
