Quote of the Week

Capture

“The statistics on sanity are that one American in four suffers from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they are okay, it’s you.”

Rita Mae Brown  (1944-     )

After obtaining degrees in cinematography, classics and English, Brown went on to doctorates in literature and political science. She began her writing career as a poet and screenwriter but gained much notoriety for her first novel Rubyfruit Jungle in 1973, which dealt with lesbian themes in an unusually frank manner for the time. Since the sixties she has been active in the fight for racial and gender equality, and was an administrator in the National Organization for Women for several years. She continues to write in the mystery genre, rides to the hounds, and plays polo.

Certainly was a busy day in Gloucester on Saturday

HarborTown Arts Festival, Art in the Ice House, (Cape Pond Ice), Premier Imprints sea glass jewelry demonstration and even The Vernal Pond had their yard sale.  Also stopped into Cape Ann Auctions to check out their merchandise.

Sugar Hill, NH Lupines

Every year the beginning of June the display of Lupines in this small NH Town of Sugar Hill is impressive!   At Exit 38 off 93 just past Franconia Notch, this little Town of less than 600 residents is easy to miss, but if you are there the first 2 weeks of June, stop by…it’s a lovely sight to see!   Hubster and I were up in the area yesterday so we went to check out the Lupine progress but there wasn’t much there….just a single Lupine bloom here and there, but in 2 weeks from now when the town holds a Lupine Festival  June 11-12, there will be an abundance of them.   If you are in the area, I would suggest stopping at Polly’s Pancake House for some great pancakes and also a tiny mom and pop store, Harman’s Cheese & Country store for their great Cheddar cheese (we stocked up!).   In the meantime, enjoy some shots I took from last year!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2015 survey reported in the U.S. (1) –

  • 37.9% of adults age 20 years and over are obese (2013-2014)
  • 70.7%  adults age 20 years and over with overweight, including obesity (2013-2014)

Weight loss and weight management can be complex. A collaborative approach may offer best outcomes. Talk to your physician about healthy ways to reduce and manage weight. If you have trouble getting started or staying focused and motivated on healthy eating and exercise behaviors, hypnosis may be a helpful adjunct.

ICE HOUSE ART HOUSE!

IceHouse Cape Pond Ice copyrightKim SmithCheck out the fantastic new gallery above Cape Pond Ice. The space is undergoing some changes but can’t you just imagine what a gorgeous gallery it will make? To debut the gallery, on display are Sue Memhard’s beautiful dreamlike series of paintings. Sue was Scott’s cousin. She passed away several years ago. Sue painted and lived in Wayland with her husband Jim Crisp. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim at the gallery today and you can too. Stop in tomorrow, Sunday, for the official grand opening of Ice House Art House.

Strange Miracle

Abstract Hull

Next to rusted paint, I love scraped and sanded hulls before they get repainted and become boring. Each one has its own unique abstract pattern and colors.
