Not going to lie, don’t know much about this, but each time I scroll through my photos it catches my eye. It is known as The Londoner and is an iron spindle not far off of Thacher’s Island. It marks Londoner’s Ledge.

My View of Life on the Dock

I have never understood why a Day Marker Aid to Navigation has never been attached to the spindle, it would greatly improve its visibility.

That Londoner Spindle
is a wicked spot in light air with the current.
Be careful.

Brings a whole new meaning to out on the point! I also remember when this happened in Rockport 1963 I was 8 years old then talk about bonfire :-O
(While on a training mission, Grouse went aground off Rockport, Massachusetts, on the night of 21 September 1963. There were no injuries to the crew, but all efforts to dislodge Grouse from the rocks failed. Grouse was destroyed by explosives 28 September 1963, and her name was struck from the Naval Vessel Register the same day).
