How long have you lived in Gloucester?

Immigrated to Gloucester in 1954 from the Azores, I left in 1968, and returned 40 years later in 2008. (Total of 20 Years)

What is your favorite season In Gloucester?

SUMMER and FALL

Sit at the end of the Breakwater.

Destinos Sub Shop 129 Prospect Street Gloucester MA

What place would you go for a romantic dinner in Gloucester?

Any Restaurant downtown, then we can walk home 

What is your favorite bar in Gloucester?

We enjoyed Giuseppe’s Ristorante and Piano Bar, however it closed so we are looking for another favorite, it’s always fun to look.

Schooner Festival

In the summer do you prefer the beach or to be on a boat?

By Boat – We have Season Tickets to the Water Shuttle from Cape Ann Harbor Tours. Hop On Hop Off or just Ride around, Best Deal in Town.

What were your thoughts on The Downtown Block Parties last year?

Okay – I take a walk up and down Main Street, than I find a quite place to eat not on Main St.. 

What is your favorite local band?

I prefer to listen to solo singers Allen Estes, Chelsea Berry, Fly Amero and  Henry Allen.

What about Gloucester sets it apart from anywhere else?

The People. It is very easy to meet those that live and visit Gloucester. I enjoy the history and the multi-cultures that make up Gloucester, and I was born on an Island so I like living on an Island.

Lao Tzu (5th century BCE)

Often credited as the author of the Tao Te Ching and the founder of the Taoist school of philosophy, Lao Tzu, which means “old master,” may have been a legendary figure, and the book a compilation from many sources, but its effect on Chinese history and culture is profound. Traditionally, he is held to have been a contemporary of Confucius, and a government official who, tiring of the corruption around him, became a hermit late in life.  Asked to record his wisdom on his return to civilization he produced the Tao Te Ching, which through allegory, paradox, and analogy teaches that freedom from desire leads to spiritual advancement and an awareness of the Tao, or the true nature of things. Another saying attributed to Lao Tzu, “The usefulness of a pot comes from its emptiness.”

Watching last night’s Final Four matchup between Syracuse and North Carolina and a couple games before this in the tournament (a small sample size I admit) it seems the game has changed a ton in the last twenty years.

I’m not going to pretend I know more than lifelong basketball minds but this is what I do know-

Back when I used to watch a ton of college basketball, if players launched off balanced three pointer after off balanced three pointers instead of trying to work the ball inside for a better percentage shot, those players that launched threes would be riding the pine.

A coach back in the day would sit those players down in a hurry.

Maybe they just didn’t feel like they could work the ball inside so the theory is to just launch threes and hope your team gets on a hot streak?  But how many games in a row can you count on lower percentage shots to bail you out?

Anyway it was a nice run for Syracuse and fun to watch.
