I’m looking for suggestions on what Features should be included in The #GloucesterMA Mariners App that I’m Going To Build

Please leave your comment on this post as far as what you’d like to see on it.

Obviously I’ll include marine forecasts, live radar, Gloucester tides.  Also I was thinking about a direct dial to The Gloucester Harbormaster’s office as well as Coast Guard Station Gloucester, maybe a link to the HarborWalk site.

What say ye- Oh Salty Brethren Of The Sea?  What would you like to see included?

How about a directory of local marinas and places where transient boaters could stay overnight?

  1. How about places to go in an emergency, for haul out, or docking, repairs. Marine Railways, Roses, Cape Ann Marina, etc.

Fishing License requirements, and where one gets one.

Mooring service providers. Dirt Murray, Brett Ramsey

    Will keep thinking, like this

  2. Contact numbers for marine towing services SeaTow, BoatUS any others? Boat repair in the area, the simple stuff. Gas up places, contact numbers.

A short guide for going under the cut bridge, VHF monitor, who goes first (river egress goes, what is the clearance when bridge is down, etc).

List of places you can legally tie up for one hour but I guess that would be easy since that would be no, you can’t.

  3. The location of the city’s transient moorings with info on markings or photos of same would be useful. Along with that the policy of the HM for transients who wish to pick up a transient mooring but for whatever reason are unable to make prior contact.

  4. How about links to gloucestergigrowers.Com where you could sign up to try rowing 19th century style wooden boats and of course Maritime Glouceater and their families exhibits?

  5. Maybe take a look at A Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast by Taft, Taft and Rinlaub. Every harbor and cove worth stopping in is listed with anchoring and mooring information, places of interest, where to buy food, fuel and marine services, plus historical information and local color. If your app followed their template you couldn’t go far wrong.
A Cruising Guide to the New England Coast (Duncan and Ware) lists Gloucester, but it’s out of date.

  6. How about a complete guide for a recreational boater’s first time visit to the harbor: buoys, landmarks, navigation channels, depths, etc. A way to welcome new and first time visitors and to make them feel comfortable during a first time visit to an unknown harbor.
