Update 3:31PM Jack & Colby Kelly ages 11 and 13 Restore My Faith In The Youth Of America!
Jack and Colby came by right at the time they said they would and have been shoveling away!
If anyone else has been helped by the service provided, please leave a comment below.
UPDATE 11:48AM For Those Who Have Responded, Let me know if you haven’t been contacted, more shovelers are now becoming available. I’ll send out more contacts if you haven’t been contacted.
So far so good!
UPDATE 5:41AM: So far we’ve had a ton of people respond that they need shoveling and only two Gloucester folks and no Rockport or Magnolia people looking to shovel.
I’m thinking there’s plenty of money to be made, a couple of young teens could probably make enough to buy an XBOX. C’mon youth of Gloucester, show me you’re willing to work. Fill in the form, there’s plenty of folks that would gladly fork over some dough.
I’m gonna try something here. Not sure if it’s going to work out but I’m going to give it a shot.
Here’s the idea-
With the impending snow storm there’s got to be a lot of folks at the end of their rope as far as shoveling goes.
Me being one of them.
But I imagine there’s lots of teens that will be out of school and able to shovel. When I was a kid, that’s what kids did. We shoveled and were rewarded with money.
My buddies and I would roam the neighborhood looking for folks that wanted to be shoveled out.
I’m not hiring kids and not going to negotiate prices but I’ll leave a form here for people interested in shoveling and for folks interested in getting people to them to shovel out their joint.
Then I’ll relay the contact information based on neighborhoods to the shovelers, they can contact the people that want to be shoveled, y’all can talk and potentially work something out.
I don’t know if this is a great idea or not but I know people are desperate and desperate times call for people trying to connect the dots. Right now there doesn’t seem to be much dot connecting. Hopefully teens or people looking for some extra pocket money can get out of the house and help some elders who could use it.
If Interested Fill Out This Form and Select Shoveler Or Need To Be Shoveled –
Your message has been sent
Again, I am not taking responsibility for the job anyone does or doesn’t do, I’m not taking responsibility for back injuries or if your kid gets run over. I’m merely trying to help people help people. I have nothing to gain from this.

I’ve lived in Essex for 25 years and have yet to have a kid come by and ask if he could shovel???!!! When I was growing up, after a snowstorm it was a race to the person’s house who paid or tipped the most…. I guess the kids these days don’t need/want the money??

You’re someone who grew up like I did. In my neighborhood, the boys competed for the work – they’d be knocking at my parents’ door when the first snow flake fell. Now it’s men with plows and $400-a-month invoices. But the plow guys don’t get down and shovel you a path or even shovel your car out after they blocked it in with a pile of snow. So I could really use a path shoveler. Thanks Joey for a great idea – let’s see how it works!

Well so far we don’t have a single Gloucester shoveler, but it hasn’t even been posted an hour. I’d think some industrious teens could make some decent money.

They don’t know it yet but I just added two Gloucester Shovelers to the list.
Jack and Colby Kelly. They are 13 and 11 year old boys in East Gloucester, near the golf course. They have had six snow days over the last three weeks and are going to be on vacation all this week so I’m looking to get them the heck out out of the house.

Shoveling around the neighborhood was one of my first paid jobs as a kid; Loved it then, love it now. Great exercise, and good community service. Best done by those in good health and in good condition. Wearing the right clothes helps too. I posted ‘safe shoveling tips’ from the American Heart Association in an earlier post. Check out these tips before shoveling. Be safe and warm!

Can you get this info to school personnel for their help in spreading the word? Or policy may prevent them for doing that, but it might be worth a try. HS kids might need community service hours? Just a thought.

Excellent idea, Joe. I put it out there a week ago that I’d HAND shovel out people who could either not afford to have “a professional” take care of it, or they -themselves- could not. I’m thinking the elderly, etc… I have worked coffee & maybe a sandwich in the past. I have a handful of people, already, but I’ll take more people on. For me, it’s about (obviously) helping people out who have limited options, but I also get to burn calories & it’s an excellent way to beat Cabin Fever. When I lived in Arizona, I actually missed shoveling snow.

I also have both 1C & 2A hoisting licenses if there is a free backhoe out there.

I am still at the house, and will be for a few more minutes. Drop me a note at: rockport.stonemasonry@gmail.com
There is a “.” (Dot) between “rockport” & “stonemasonry”. Some people miss that, and consequently, I’ve missed their e-mails.

Jack and Colby can be contacted to work by calling or texting their personal assistant (me) at 617-429-0501.
Thank you!

Is there anyone in Beverly? This is an excellent Post Board, its good to see something like this. When one is a senior and disabled- hard to get hired help especially when they don’t return phone calls.
