At the State Pier on Saturday, saw this little guy diving and swimming. Some visitors from the Audubon Society told me this was a diving Grebe. Does anyone know if that is correct?

I just did some research on North American Sea Grebe and yes, it does appear to be a diving grebe. Beautiful.

All species of grebes are diving birds, as opposed to dabblers. An example of a dabbler is the mallard.
I believe your photo is a Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritus), in its winter non-breeding plumage.

Hell no, it’s a diving bird! Nothing like the silver furry ones that are raiding my bird feeder. Enjoy the snow.
