    1. That must have been fascinating to see Paul Manships’ sculptures and be around him and his intriguing sounding property. I came across this wonderful quote which was scribbled on a piece of paper found by his son in the pocket of his dressing gown after his death: β€œThe primary impulse in the Arts is to give permanence to the fleeting moment, to bid it stay, because we cannot bear to lose it.” Thanks for sharing another of your great memories of growing up here in Gloucester.

      1. Great Response EJ you know it from within everyday –
Sorry for the typos long days and rushing. part not park poor wrting skills but get the picture!. It was they a time I never forget were very kind to us and was a great place! Had the barn at end of driveway with all kinds of goodies – I remember a Cvil War uniform with saber…loads of their work also. I even posed for a picture try keeping a young lad still and got paid the normal wages for just sitting. I had strawbwerry red hair now mostly grey every one earned πŸ™‚ And in the 60’s sit on the pattio between the job drink cold drings or hot coco and look out at buttman’s pond crisp and clear full of fish then, frogs, tadpoles, turtles…I believe I may have got the two mixed up Paul & John…he also drove a Nash Rambler I going to go out on the limb here and say it was a pink one too! I could be wrong so many years ago. And the area between the pond and quarry pit other side had a cliff we used to to jump off hold on that was a ways down I am guessing 40 to fifty feet or so Ouch on the most jumped off this! It was in the 60’s and think they sealed it off later keep folks out? :-O

Both – A Village at Lane’s Cove by Barbara H Erkkila and Kathleen Valentine -Text for “Legacy: The Artistic Families of the North Shore Arts Association” for American Art Review…Wrote about all this treasures of Cape Ann. I guess it’s so true you always seek greener grass on the other side when you are in fact standing on it πŸ™‚ Dave & Kim:-)

When I think back on the path this does come to mind in some of things us little rascals did move over spanky and the gang:-)
