  4. Well, Kathy and Fred, you surprised me with this one. Now here’s the real story. For years now, I have been going along for the ride in this race while my son Andy does the driving, with Spike Ramsden trimming. They are the tacticians as well. Here’s a shot of them in this last race. Andy has logged 49 years in Green Dragon.

    This was the 30th Gloucester Schooner Festival and before that, in the 60’s, we had the Great Gloucester Schooner Race. In this next shot Andy is the towhead kid and I am leaning against Green Dragon’s boom. The deal in that race was to look like fishermen, and we got a prize from Mighty Mac for our getup.

    Spike is the real sailor among us. Here’s a link to one of his actions in the ’93 Whitbread ‘Round the World Race.
