A life to celebrate and a spirit by which to be inspired.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
-Nelson Mandela

With Hammerstein, Rodgers wrote the most ground breaking musicals ever written, and they were seemingly fearless in tackling very difficult subject matter, including racial prejudice and spousal abuse. South Pacific is amazing for its candid exploration of racism–“You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught” is simply brilliant.
