Torpedo Boat USS Foote, circa 1900

This is dedicated to former thirty year Gloucester City Councilor Gus Foote. I've been meaning to do this for a while. The Foote was a US Navy Torpedo boat, launched in 1896. It was the first of three naval warships named Foote, all named in honor of Rear Admiral Andrew Hull Foote, a successful Civil War captain and fleet commander. The 160 foot long Foote fought in the Spanish-American War and World War I. So Gus, and all my other friends, Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. My grandfather served on the USS Foote in WWl. The Foote was a coastal patrol boat out of Charleston harbor. I had never seen this photo before! Thank you.
