Birds?

Janet and I have three parakeets, Merry, Pippin, and Jack. I had no familiarity with birds until I met Janet, but now I do. Caged birds need heat, food, and water to survive. I learned all this from her. Before I left for work today I checked on them, and I smelled something like burning. It was a space heater, so I replaced it with another one. Not only am I attached to these birds, but I've also learned to like the wild birds outside as well. I hear them every morning communicating with our birds. It's a sweet sound. We put seed outside for the Swallows and Bluejays. Unfortunately, the water in the bird bath was frozen today.

  1. The indoor birds don’t need to be kept too warm. They have feathers and down. Keep them out of drafts and extremes. I’ve had a domestic bird for 28 years.

  2. Wow nice story and beautfiul blue bird bath – Growing up that way their were lot’s of bird baths heavy types of all designs and like you music to the ears. This way the little sparrows will follow you walking along the trail – and sometimes when they land on ledge outside windown or power line I can imitate a few calls they be looking around to see where it’s coming from…There is a park next to us so many birds…but also people (not always music to my ears espcially at O-dark-thirty I need my beauty sleep not that it helps any! Thanks πŸ™‚

  3. Fred- They have birdbath heaters. We use one, they only turn on when it’s below around 38Β°to keep the ice form forming. It keeps the birds hydrated when there is no snow or standing water on the ground. You can get the heaters at Ace or the BC, and they are only about 15 bucks. Helps keep the birds around all winter!!

Helps to keep the birds hydrated when there is no snow or standing water in puddles for them to drink from. We have one and it also helps to keep the songbirds hanging around all winter. Get them at Ace or the BC.
