Passports’ Makeover after Olive Kitteridge

After HBO filmed there, our Passports Restaurant (110 Main Street) is taking the opportunity to renovate and will reopen soon. Top notch painter Katherine Richmond, center, is in charge of the wall treatments. Owner Eric Lorden is working his ass off, with his trusted crew. Passports is the only restaurant I've ever sent people to, who went out of their way to come back and thank me for the recommendation.

Here, owner and chef Eric Lorden, in the white t-shirt, is pulling up 100+ years of flooring with a claw hammer. Eric and his construction crew are going petal to the metal, and hoping to open in a couple of weeks.

  1. Katherine does a top notch job – she’s also painted our walls and floors and she knows what she’s doing! Not only is she a great painter she is also a very talented photographer. Glad to see Eric figured out his floor problem and we are looking forward to the re-opening.

  2. I have heard that the noisy environment is built out by design. Apparently the noisy (somewhat?) keeps people pumped up and excited.. in theory customers then order more wine, food, or simply move on so the table turns. This was a few years ago that I heard Noisy was planned.

    1. I agree, within reason. There are some restaurants that I and slightly older people went for dinner, and we left, because one can’t have a conversation. Jalapenos was like that in their new space, and I suggested sound dampers hung from the ceiling, They did it and now it’s great. But some places like the amped up music to attract the younger martini crowd. Me, I just want to go home, put my head on the pillow, and be sound asleep in a minute or two. Ahh … Pigeon Cove.
