Here’s another Iceland whalewatch boat. HAUKUR (hawk) was previously a dragger forced out of the fishery as it was downsized and reinvented as a schooner. She sails out of Husavik in the north of the country. The captain, Thorunn Hardardottir had no sailing experience so came over and sailed the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race with us. The American Schooner Association amended its bylaws to include HAUKUR and Capt. Hardardottir.

One of my best friends was stationed up here in 1976-1977 time frame out of tech school he is from MA also Burlington retired USAF also….Lot’s fo rotations and very important location…especially so in cold war time frame…and beyond.
