The No Brainer of All No-Brainer Groupons The Thomas E. Lannon
Now Just last week I was telling you that the number one thing I would tell anyone that they had to do on a 70 degree plus day in G Town was to go for a sail on the Lannon, and lo and behold BAM! A groupon for half off. These don’t last long and usually they shut it down half way through the day because they only release so many to groupon. Don’t be a dope, get yours for 45% off now!

The Schooner Thomas E Lannon Hauled Out At Rose’s 4:45 AM 4/19/12
Posted on April 22, 2012 by Joey C
It’s almost that time of year when all the really cool stuff around happens. At the Top of my list for anyone coming into town on a nice day is a sail aboard the Thomas E Lannon. Bottom line if a tourist had one thing to do and only one thing I’d tell them on a nice day to take a cruise aboard what I consider to be the most beautiful ship in the harbor.
Not only is the ship beautiful, but you also get to experience the warm genuine hospitality of some of the finest representatives our city has to offer The Ellis family. Captain Tom, his wife and sons are just the nicest most sincere, fun loving people you’d ever want to meet.
There is hospitality that is, you know, kinda forced, which in my book is fine because in the absence of the warm fuzzy true genuine friendliness I’ll take a forced friendliness over bad or rude service any day. But from the minute you enter the booking office and you meet Kay you realize there is nothing phony about the Schooner Lannon’s operation. They just happen to be really good at what they do, they love it and they provide a great experience genuinely and naturally- the best of all worlds!
This is not to say there aren’t a bunch of other very cool things to do around town like whale watches, deep sea fishing, Visiting The cape Ann Museum or The Heritage Center, coffee at one of our great coffee shops, breakfast at our many awesome breakfast joints, ect, ect. I’m just saying, you give me a sunny 70 degree day and I have folks in from out of town, A guaranteed great time is to be had aboard The Thomas E Lannon.
Here are some early morning photos I took of her on the blocks at rose’s Marine where she is being sanded down and getting freshened up for the fun season ahead!
We will be having our GMG Folly Cove Rum and Old Cuban Cigar Co cruise this summer, as soon as Kay and I lock down the dates I’ll let y’all know.

Gloucester Webcam of The Day- Island Art and Hobby
This Webcam and more can be found at www.gloucesterwebcam.com
Check Out Island Art and Hobby Website Here
This www.gloucesterwebcam.com local webcam portal project was an idea I had last year to have as many webcams streaming from local businesses or organizations as possible which highlight the incredible vistas that we as people that live and work here get to enjoy each and every day.
The idea was to have the organization install the webcam, have them embed the webcam feed on their own websites as well and have a link to each business website on the Gloucester webcam portal website to showcase their business as well.
Tim Blakeley from Gloucester Bytes provided the initial installation at ridiculously cheap cost because he believed in the project.

Follow up of the 100th Birthday of Ruth Hinderliter.
Our regular readers will remember the story of the coming of Ruth Hinderliter’s 100th birthday.
Well the special day came and Da Sticka was there to help celebrate!
Follow up of the 100th Birthday of Ruth Hinderliter.
First, I would like to thank all of the Good Morning Gloucester readers for their wonderful response with cards and comments that made the big event even more festive. Ruth’s party was held on March 20 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was surrounded by family and friends as she enjoyed a lunch prepared by her great grandson Robert Chermely. Helping to serve were Robert’s wife Katie Chermely, and their son Jarrod. Also serving was Ruth’s grandson Michael Spolan, and his son Zachary, and Ruth’s great grandson Joey Benga. Among the family that arrived from Gloucester to enjoy the day were her niece Nancy Olson, great nephew Alex Olson, great grandson Joey Benga and granddaughter Carolyn Benga. Joining us to celebrate from Pittsburgh were her daughter Linda and son in law, John Grilli, and Chrissy.
Ruth said now that she has made it to 100, her new goal is to add 5 more years! All her family and friends applauded because they believe she will. Hopefully you will be seeing Ruth around Gloucester this summer enjoying the town and the wonderful folks that live here .Thanks again for your interest in this story.

Love shooting early morning just after a rain storm. The textures and reflections make for much more interesting photos. The green on the sign vs the yellow and the purple. Lots of repetition and symmetry. Sometimes the scenes you pass by a million times end up being the most interesting when you simply slow down and immerse yourself in it.

Adventure
Adventure
When we are children, we dream of adventure,
like climbing Mount Everest or sailing alone
around the globe or living in the wilderness,
foraging and hunting for our very survival,
or, perhaps, someday learning to fly.
Often, along the way, our dreams are modified;
In my case, Mt. Everest became the High Peaks
of New York, the oceans of the world were
reduced to the Finger Lakes and living off the land
turned into an irregularly kept vegetable garden.
And I have never learned to fly.
But here’s what I have done: survived seven
years in the sterile suburbs of New York City amid
endless shopping centers and the numbing drudgery
of a long daily commute, but then picked up
my family and moved 250 miles away to a small
town where we started over from scratch;
where we raised our children, built a life,
and did everything from keeping chickens and
goats to serving in the state capitol to
meeting our grandchildren and loosing
some loved ones, and then, like a broken field runner,
changing directions and heading east to Gloucester.
Gloucester, where I awake to such scenes, scents and
sounds and I feel as though I am in a painting
by Van Gogh when his eyes and mind were
seared by the light at Arles; where the people who were
born here are still thankful for this place and
where each day is an adventure that beats my early dreams.

LAST CALL- Community Announcement Notice: Joey C Will Be Gone From May 1-15th
If you have an announcement for the Community Stuff section it needs to be submitted before the 30th.
Please do not send in anything after the 29th of April.
The blog will still be updated every hour on the hour from 6am to 8pm. I’ve been working hard to pre-schedule two week’s worth of content during my scheduled times and you’ll be in very capable hands with the rest of the GMG crew who I know will step up and keep the quality at the high standards that you’ve come to expect from us.
Thank you, the boss.

Rocky Neck Getting Ready to Rock
Joey came by the gallery on Rocky Neck yesterday and took these shots. His new work looks great, and I don’t look too wild for four days without a fix. Still in the process of hanging and organizing – aiming to open Mother’s Day weekend with a grand opening bash Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, and the first Mug Up of the season on Sunday, May 27th.

She’s back … and she brought a friend. Let’s welcome Chelsea & Megan tonight at the Brew Pub @ 5pm.
Last month, one of our favorite local artists, Chelsea Berry brought a friend to town: Colorado singer/songwriter Megan Burtt — and now she one of our favorites too. Here are two videos from one of last month’s concerts.
Powerful story of friendship and adventure followed by a song full of wisdom that seems far beyond her years (see more videos from that concert here.)
One of our favorite Chelsea Berry songs that we think she should sing at every gig!
There’s music all day today. It’s going on now at Alchemy and continues into late in the evening at Dog Bar, where Ryan Alto starts at 9. See the full music lineup here.

Tugboat Independence
from the Gloucester Daily Times;
The Independence’s many roles for Neptune GDF Suez provide “safety and security responsibilities, a communication conduit to the maritime community and logistical support for (tanker) personnel and equipment,” White said. Neptune GDF Suez has also offered Independence’s firefighting capability to the city of Gloucester should a waterfront fire ever occur.” CLICK HERE TO READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE
