Did You Know? (Cellar Holes)

That in addition to his quirky mission to leave behind inspirational message carved on boulders strewn throughout Dogtown, Roger Ward Babson was also fascinated by the history of the people who inhabited the Commons Settlement and marked the cellar holes of the long ago inhabitants of this community.  This is cellar hole number 22.  As you can see, the homes were pretty small back in the 1600’s.

  1. E.J.,
Dogtown is one of my favorite Cape Ann places. I’ve been down just about every trail at one time or another, and took a lot of photos over the years. I also acquired numerous ticks and mosquito bites to show for it. Glad you’ve been up there a lot. Do you think a book or calendar of the Babson boulders would be a good project? Or maybe a combo of boulders, vistas, and nature photos? I’d love to have one!

  2. Hi Bob, I do love Dogtown, it is such a magical place. I came out with a little tick this time that fortunately hadn’t had a chance to attach himself yet. I don’t like ticks. I just sent off to the printer today my 2012 Dogtown and Babson Boulders (complete collection) calendar, which includes all the boulders, some interesting Dogtown images, the James Merry markers and cellar hole 22, as well as a brief history of Dogtown, Roger Babson and the Babson boulders. You can see it at http://www.khanstudiointernational.com/dogtown%20and%20babson%20boulders%20calendar%202012.htm.
I should have them in about 10 days
