A word of caution to GMG readers: When the waves are large and the tide is up, it’s risky to walk out onto Dog Bar Breakwater. All it takes is one big one to knock you into the harbor. This happened to a friend of mine. It’s difficult to climb out, especially with winter clothing on.

When I was a kid I watched a family swept off the Dog Bar, my uncle tried a rescue but of the four, the Dad died….
Thanks for tryin’ to keep ’em safe.
