Believe me the full sized hi resolution photo is worth clicking on
The building in the left where it says “PICTURE” is the former Gray’s Hardware building which has recently been torn down and rebuilt. You can see the same window frames in 1910 as it was 100 years later in 2010.

This is so cool. If you go to the full sized picture you can see in the windows. I love any old Gloucester pics. This is a great find.

GREAT, stunning photo! I especially love seeing Kirk Noyes’ regal 92 Main Street!
I rented the third (1977) & then came back again & rented the 4th floor (1986). Wonderful memories of grand spaces, “wide format” harbor views & the comraderie of being downtown. The “bliz ot ’78” was especially cool from this location. Thanx for posting it!

That is one great photo. Thanks for posting it. For us out-of-towners who don’t get to Gloucester often, could you tell us the current occupants of two or three buildings to help us visualize where we are on Main?

Cool looking int the windows. Had to look up what a chiropodist was. Complete with electrical massage of the feet.

Awesome picture. I don’t know sometimes I think we may have been better of way back when.

I enjoy seeing the tree line in the background. All those telephone lines too. In the late 50’s, if I remember correctly, our phone number on Cedar St. was 4779-J. I think we were one of 4 families on that party line. Other people on the street, with no phones would be at the door with bread or jams in exchange to use the phone. It wasn’t that long ago. A decade later Neil Armstrong stepped on the Moon. Yesterday I got a new blackberry.

Just drove down the street past that corner, the big shoe, and thinking of trolley tracks which would take you to Pigeon Cove. Let’s get out of these cars and put those tracks back in and move into the modern age.
