There is an entire genre of music called “Wizard Rock” (which started in Massachusetts, actually) dedicated solely to celebrating the universe of Harry Potter, and the Schuyler Sisters’ “movie about rocking and Rowling” focuses on the dedicated fans that created it.

This screening will benefit The Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport.

Less money in wallets, less lobster on plates

(Published: Sunday, February 15, 2009) PLEASANTVILLE – In 2003, Casino Lobster owner Greg Goff estimated his company was selling 400,000 pounds of lobster to casinos, 500,000 pounds overall, each year. Goff now thinks that estimate was high and should have been closer to 200,000 pounds, “because it’s not off that much,” the owner said. Last year, Casino Lobster sold 90,000 pounds to casinos. That amounted to 54 percent of the 168,000 pounds sold overall. The dropoff was most intense in the fall. It colored what had been a “good year in general,” Goff said. Demand for lobster fell after prices rose in the summer. “When the economy falters, people aren’t really eating high-end,” Goff said. Goff has relied more on part-time workers than in the past. It also helps that he has cross-trained his staff for years – truck drivers also can cut fish, for example. The business has been around for 23 years. Goff would not predict how Year 24 will go.-

Emile Doucette is one of the original Gloucester Guerillas.  He displayed some of the work from Bait and Tackle ad agency at the second Block Party and also the first GGAP presentation at Cape Ann Community Cinema.

Emile, Chad Carlberg and the Bait and Tackle crew recently won an award for the short picture film Daughters of Dogtown which we showed at the first GGAP officially sanctioned event.

He is an amazing videographer and editor and we’re gonna blow the roof off this summer with some big time Guerilla style Art projects (stay tuned)!

I just noticed that with  just under 2300 hits from now GoodMorningGloucester will have reached 300,000 hits.  That’s not to shabby for a little blog that was started right around New Years Day last year.

Considering the first couple months it only generated about 20-50 hits a day, GMG has grown steadily and we haven’t looked back since.

Thanks to everyone who has subscribed, bookmarked, made this community a more positive place to be and laughed with us along the way.

Without your comments and support the energy to continue would surely have waned.   Thank you, thank you thank you, for sharing your mornings, days and evenings with me.

Sometime painter Sam Holdsworth painted a series of 38 oil panels which were an imaginative, sideways tribute to that local summertime menace, the Tabanus americanus — or Greenhead horse fly. This short film, produced and narrated by Holdsworth’s Musician Magazine co-founder, Gordon Baird, is a simultaneously amusing and haunting short film, portraying the carnivorous creatures as human-like and alien at the same time.

Mr. Baird will be on hand to present the film and conduct a Q&A after the show, which is presented at the special discount price of $5.00, proceeds from which will benefit the Matteo Russo Fund. A selection of Gloucester-related short subjects will precede the film.

When looking at the boat what I notice is that the deck of the boats is really deep, it seems lower than waterline.  There are no scuppers that I can see.  I wonder how they clean the deck and get the water and fish guts out?  Also if it took on water from a rogue wave how would it clear itself of the water?

Interesting.  There must be some type of system to clear the water.  Maybe they rely on pumps to pump the water overboard.

“City’s Spirit Shines At Benefit”- Editorial From The GDT

We did good!

From the Gloucester Daily Times-

In a program ripe with artists capturing Gloucester’s character, the city’s spirit shone as bright as ever.

Snowed out two weeks earlier, the fund-raiser to aid the children of Patriot fishing boat Captain Matteo Russo drew a near full house Sunday afternoon to the Gloucester Stage Co, theater, where lobster broker and “Good Morning Gloucester” blogger Joe Ciaramitaro teamed up with Cape Ann Cinema coordinator Rob Newton to raise more than $2,200 for the cause.

But the success of the event extended beyond the numbers, and even beyond the fact that it was for a good cause.
