Video- The Crew Of The Degelyse Sets Out To Catch Liberated Buddhist Lobsters

To Make clear the following is only satire and I’ll take responsibility for people not from around the waterfront misunderstanding
I was wrong to assume that because I predominantly write our hyperlocal blog for our Cape Ann residents that people would understand how preposterous the notion that you could have time to move all the lobster gear even if they knew where the lobsters were released and to set it and for those lobsters which were probably miles away from that location would ever get caught.

I was obviously wrong and people did not understand with the outlandishness of it all that it was a joke.

It’s on me.

What I am happy for is that the releasing of the lobster story which would have been a simple story largely forgotten by now has gotten huge legs and all the positives of Buddhism are highlighted. For that I am grateful.

You know the craziest part? So many people think I’m hatin on Buddhism, but I download a Buddhhism podcast from this guy that Lindsay Crouse recommended that I listen to- Lama Marut.
Check him out, the guy makes a lot of sense.

Receiving the coordinates of where the lobsters were released by Buddhist monks, the boys went out yesterday and hauled the lobster traps they set all over that ocean bottom and caught exactly 534 lobsters, the precise number the monks released.

We used the Kayalu saltwater safe RAM camera mount to secure the Kodak Zx3 Saltwater proof camera to the aft window of the wheelhouse to record this.

Thank you and come again next year Mr Buddhist monks, we would like to invite you back again and again to purchase our lobsters and “restock the pond”

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Instead of plunging headfirst to their death in a pot of boiling water, 534 live lobsters escaped the dinner plate and belly flopped to freedom into the dark waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

A group of Tibetan Buddhists flanked the sides of a whale-watching boat at dusk on Wednesday, sprayed the lobsters with blessed water, clipped the bands binding their dangerous claws and gently released them one by one into the deep water below.

For Adam Bolonsky- The Fence And What It’s Used For On A Lobster Boat- The Degelyse

DSC04865

Many lobster boats have been installing these”fences” along the side of the boat where that is opposite the hauling station.

The fence has several purposes.  Real estate on a lobster boat is valuable, especially if the lobsterman is a real fisherman and not just a “pot hauler”.  A pot hauler is a lobsterman who simply sets his traps out in the same spots and doesn’t take the time to figure out what exactly the lobsters are doing and more importantly where they will show up next.  So the “pot hauler” sets his traps and goes back to the same spots over and over and doesn’t move the lobster traps around to try to be where the lobsters will show up next to be caught.

Lugging 100 traps from one area to another and resetting them and adjusting the lengths of the trawl lines for different fathoms is a lot of work and some “pot haulers” would just assume keep to a simple routine even though it doesn’t yield the best results.  To be fair, to move lots of traps from one area to a whole different area forces a lobsterman to either have a very large boat in which they can stack a ton of traps on and get lots of traps moved at one time or if they have smaller boats they have to make multiple trips because you just can’t put that many traps aboard due to a shortage of space.

This is where a fence can be beneficial in two ways.  All of the buoys and high-flyers and even barrels can be lashed on to the fence to save deck space for work.

Secondly when stacking traps high on the deck of the boat to get as many on as possible for moving them to a different area the fence helps to secure the traps.  So if the lobsterman feels that his catch has dropped off and he can catch more lobsters by moving to a different area he can move a bunch at one time and not worry about losing them overboard in windy or rough conditions.

Kaitlin’s Response

Many of you wrote in asking just what the response from LA TV producer Kaitlin Herbert was after we requested nude photos before we could enter any serious negotiations to use the Crew of The Degelyse for the Food Network’s newest show.

In case you missed the first part I’ll repost it for you followed by Kaitlin’s response-

So yesterday morning I get an email from a woman named Kaitlin Herbert.  Kaitlin works for the television production company that produces the number one show on BRAVO- “the Millionaire Matchmaker and one of the top rated shows on Animal Planet “Pit Boss”.

So her production company is looking for some fishermen for a particular type of show they are developing for the Food Network.  She told me that she found GMG after an extensive search for Gloucester Fishing vessels. I sent here a pile of links to some of the videos we’ve done featuring Tuffy, Stoga and Trapper John.

Within an hour or so I got an email back from Kaitlin asking for the contact information for Tuffy saying that he and his crew seem like a great group of guys and that they would love to hear their story.

Tuffy happened to be out fishing but when he hit the dock we taped a special message for Kaitlin which you can view below.

Watch the video before reading her response so it will make sense.

Here is Kaitlin’s email response to Tuffy’s video-

I’m both mildly offended and incredibly impressed by your video. While I won’t be sending any nude pictures (that’s what free internet porn is for, boys), I’ve spoken to my bosses and they’re interested in speaking with the crew to get a better feel for the guys and what they do on a daily basis. They really enjoyed the video of Stoga, and would like to know if he’s part of the crew. If there is any more information you could give us, we would greatly appreciate it.
